Here is the scenario .... Toilet block is closed..guess what need to use the facilities. No problem , have paid a lot of money for our unit and guess what ? inside is a nice roomy toilet all to ourselves..Not rocket science ,

I am not being sarcastic , just dont see the porblemEmbarassed

I think the problem in this respect, was for people leaving who had emptied out there toilet prior to putting the van back in storage. However, again not insurmountable, in a case where no alternative was available I charged ours up again and took it  home
for emptying. It also meant it was available on route.

you can't compare prices here with overseas, totally different set of econmic reasons, the ways the sites are run. Personally I can't see how it would be better either for the increased cost and never mind the red herring of if it costs less overthere, we are talking over here and it will cost more, and for the end result in terms of the blocks being clean which everyone including the most ardent club critic agrees on. This cleaniness is for most of the day in my experience, there are one or two exceptions to this during one 24 hour period, but when mentioned in site reviews it usually says spotless, very clean... but there is never a mention this being a limited state.

Now, perhaps someone would like to explain why the French system described in my post at the top of this page, would not be better for customers of the CC.....

Why would it better, as I said above what is so difficult about using the other block, if available, or the alternative toilet.

Errrrr....because the toilets would be cleaner all day long.

And the wardens could get on with warden duties.....or maybe the site could manage with less of them, saving money.

Many sites don't have a second toilet block or an alternative toilet....York Rowntree is one that springs to mind.

Yeah, but as for French toilets, it doesn't take long to clean a hole in the floor does it?!! LaughingLaughing

(That was a joke, before anyone starts jumping up and down, foot stamping!)

because the toilets would be cleaner all day long.

there is no evidence to suggest they are not clean now

And the wardens could get on with warden duties.....or maybe the site could manage with less of them, saving money

totally illogical, someone will have to clean the toilets more than at present so

    a) the wardens have to do it so take them off the jobs they do in the afternoons, and replace them with someone to do those jobs = more costs

    b) employ someone to clean the toilets in the afternoons = more costs

Even if someone was employed on just cleaning toilets it would save about one to two hours of wardens time ie what they do at present. I suppose over a week that could mean you lose one warden.

I have to ask you Ian as someone who has said they are using club sites significantly less and less and doubts they will be renewing their membership next time, why are you campaigning so vigorously for such a change?

It would mine......or maybe, as it would seriously shorten the 'experience' it would improve it?

In the supermarkets we frequent the disabled toilet is made available at these times, although as they are smaller and don't have showers they are not closed for long. Of course if you were in a French supermarket, you would be lucky to find one.

Ian, you still haven't suggested how work time directives, rotas, staffing levels and working hours can be circumnavigated to achieve your utopia of omnipitant wardens. Yes, I'm really trying, really trying hard to be a SA on this occasion but the reality is that the above means compromise and you don't seem to have an answer to what you aspire for! The only solution I can see is standards drop in some areas or staffing costs increase considerably. Oh, just thought, another solution is that you do some voluntary work but you'll be hard pressed to cover every site, every day, all season!Wink

I know how some French owners manage it, they just open one part of the block, ladies or gents in the off peak, to cut costs. Works for them, wether it would be accepted here is another matter. You would have to conduct a survey. After all we are not French,
may not even be part of the EU shortly and have our own views on what we consider acceptable.

Ah, may be they are family owned, family run! Just ask many of us who run their own businesses. They don't often apply the 'rules' to themselves but need to for their employees who are not family members. Could it be the sites you are talking about fit this
    family business model?

Not come across any CC sites expecting the ladies to use the gents though. So a slightly different scenario.

23 hours a day isn't bad availability. You hardly need to make a booking, just plan a little and shower in the other 23.

Its not the other 23 hours though is it , unless you count afternoons and the dead of night as suitable shower times, some folk not us unfortunately manage to sleep in the morning and then low and behold the shower block is closed at say 11. As a general principle I would regard the convenience of the paying clients as more important than that of the staff and I find this willingness plan around them  strange.

As you say it is unfair to count the dead of night hours. However, the showers seem to get a fair bit of use in the late afternoon / early evening. Not everyone showers in the morning. I also do not find it an inconvenience. No pun intended.

What about the lack of shower facilities during this shutdown, most of us have the caravan toilets but we never use the shower and  would prefer to shower when we want rather rhan to a timetable.

But you can surely shower to your heart's content David, apart from the one hour, one day a year when you're on a CC site and the block is closed!

I'm with you on not using the shower in the van, but I'm quite happy to maybe read and have a cuppa until I can get to use the nice freshly cleaned facilities!

No need for that gallic shrug now Ian, (I wonder if there is an emoticon for that) as we may well have hit upon the reasoning behind how your French sites 'do' it. They are possibly family run sites. Definitely no way you can make any comparisons there in this matter then!

Many sites have more than one shower block so there is always one open but most of the others now have a seperate cubicle open when the main block is closed so the problem is minimal and even on those where there is no shower for an hour it should be no
great problem. I am still struggling to see what is wrong with the caravan shower. No walking accross the site in the rain, no cold concrete or tiled floor and a nice warm carpet to step onto. I know you have to fetch the water but to me that is a minor point
unless there are six of you inside the caravan when it would be a problem.
