Caravan and Camping Club change in arrival times

Not sure whether this is relevant, but have booked Bath Chew through the CC and found out the earliest arrival time is 2.00pm. As I live about 2 hours away I will waste the whole morning to get the timing right. Now I am wondering whether the arrival time,
will cause more congestion, with everyone wanting to maximise their afternoon. My natural tendancy is to target 2.00 and I wonder whether others will do the same.I wouldn't go if the arrival time is after 2pm by the time you get set up the afternoon has gone.
me neither, think of those poor cravanning weekenders getting such a great deal......and then they find the site is actually nowhere near Bath
Many of us caravanning weekenders have little chance of arriving at 12 or 1 BB
I don't waste a day's leave so I can drive to a site. Not many of my friends do either. Standard leaving time is when school finishes. Although that of course doesn't apply to Chew Valley as it's AO

I sincerely hope that the CC does not follow suit regarding arrival times.
Agree, as we tend to use a series of sites on a tour which are a lot less than 1hr apart. I know that we could park up on a layby, but there are areas where these are in very short suppy, eg Lake District, also what about areas where one is not familiar
with the roads? IMO this idea had not been thought through properly.0 -
A break for lunch? In a customer focused leisure industry?? Really???
And what on earth do they have to do to get the pitches 'ready'?
If any change were required, it was to make it 11am departures (strictly enforced) and 12 noon arrivals.
...What a dickensian attitude towards 'workers'! How servile do you want them to be! Excellent service provision can be provided in all jobs including the leisure industry without breaking employment law and metering abuse! In doing so it may just mean we consumers have to pay just a tad more!

Therer seems to be more discusion on this site about the actions of the C&CC than on their own site although unhappiness with it seems to be the theme. Not at all sure what happens if you turn up early though.
Watch out though if it works which I doubt it could be here next!

years ago, our firm had its lunch break at 1 oclock for an hour (like many other companies) and this was an opportunity for those to carry out admin tasks like buying stamps, taxing cars, posting parcels etc at the town post office opposite....
however, like many other companies, the Post Office shut for lunch from one till two (and at five when the firms workers got their next chance.....) .....
so, this meant a mile long queue on a saturday morning to buy a stamp.....
one day, the PO woke up and realised (all too late to save it) that, by staggering employees' lunch breaks, a continuous service could be provided and takings rocketted.....
firms' customers (including those of the CC) come from all walks of life and employment and expect a service industry to be able to accommodate them...
keeping an office open during a lunch break by sharing hours across the team isnt rocket science in a 'service' world....its a basic 'given'.....and not Dickensian at all.
...thank was my point BB, as we both said, it's the system that must change to ensure lunch breaks etc. The poster had implied that lunch breaks in the leisure industry is questionable. Hence the posters use of double question marks in the phrase!
The very idea that workers rights should not be accounted for is unacceptable and to the deliberately flaunting of these rights by employers is Dickensian in my view.

I agree that I worded this badly, Micky. I meant a break in service. I am not suggesting that staff do not get a break, but to 'close up shop' completely for an hour in the middle of the day (when customers want to arrive) is just ridiculous.
As said, staggered lunch breaks should not be beyond the wit of man or a camp site......

...I take you are not including one couple sites your "idea"

Most of the club sites that we've been on have the office open from 9:00 to 5:30. Where there are only one set of wardens on a site and busy a notice is posted telling arrivals to choose an available pitch and to book in at a given time, or even the next
morning if it's the wardens' day off.0 -
We use both club's sites and, although we're not often around during the day, I don't think I can remember a single example of the office/reception being closed in the middle of the day if we've needed anything! Where are all these sites where this happens?

I would have thought that if one couple cant cope then there is something wrong with the system and maybe a temp for a couple of hours a day could man (or woman) the desk if its that important. There is another way a notice on the office door saying "pitch yourself come back at x time"
This could, I guess, apply to two couple sites too, for the majority of the week. Afterall each couple may have two rest days off per week. That'll be four out of seven days that the 2 couple site is potentially operating like that of a single couple site.
Solutions however may add additional costs!

A Caravaner’s Carol
Ebenezer H Scrooge was in the rear office working by candlelight signed an eviction by 12 notice for a poor family who wanted a few more hours past 12 before they returned to their daily toil.
His chief warden Cratchitt walked in:
Crachitt: Excuse me sir, its appears to be lunchtime
Scrooge: very well, you may take a 10 minute break
Crachitt: 10 minutes hardly seems customary for lunch?
Scrooge: What is customary?
Crachitt: An hour sir if it’s convenient
Scrooge: … the entire hour! I suppose you would think yourself ill-used if I took an hour’s pay out of your wages but you don’t think me ill-used for paying an hour’s pay for no work?
Crachitt: Please sir it’s only once a day and due to your everybody evicted by 12 rule and no one arriving till 1, you will have no one to do business with and you’ll waste a lot of expensive electricity for the 1 kw fire in the office.
Scrooge: It seems a poor excuse for picking a man’s pocket every day at 12, but as I’m the only person who sees that - take the hour off. But be back sharp at one, I have a voucher for a free pudding at the local tavern

Southport has closed its reception (for toilet cleaning) and placed a board outside barring you from entering the site for several years now and, when visiting Lady Margaret's Park recently (at a time when only one set of wardens was in attendance) they
too closed the reception for the same reason. People arriving whilst the reception was closed had to wait until noon to get on site.0 -

Bearstead is another site that does not allow arrivals before 1.00pm because reception is closed between midday and 1.00pm. When I rang them to check its was OK to arrive earlier (coming from the Tunnel) they said I could park in the carpark which was fine
with us.With regards to the C&CC perhaps every site is having an enforced lunchbreak which I imagine is not paid so they save a lot of money across the network.

...And gives more hours to run the sites,
Just one other thing that the ccc do /or did in the past,if the site managers wanted to run a shop for the members they had to rent space from the club

We have a booking at Bearstead in the Summer but we will probably cancel it because of that late arrival time (and also because it's blimmin' expensive!)

Running sites would be a doddle if it wasnt for those pesky customers keep getting in the way
..Most staff in most jobs feel that way about a large proportion of their customers these day
