New UK Sites App

Yes you would have to be online to book. It's just that on the main web site you could not start to make a booking, because you could not bring up a site. Clearly there is no way to know if it was just this part of the site that was down and the booking part was still active. Because the app works offline all the search functionality was still there, although it was down on the main site. I was actually on line and logged in on the app and availability was showing. Hence my question of wether it would have been possible to make a booking.

I've read all these comments with interest and have just downloaded the app for my iPad. I'm in France at the moment so haven't tried the search facility. However, two points I would make.
1). Why. oh why is the iPad version of the app not displaying in landscape format? It is a basic tenet of an app for an iPad that it should not display in portrait mode which this app does.
2). To those of you asking what is the point of the app. It means I can search for a CL when I am out and about. Many of us with motorhomes don't book sites way in advance, in fact we don't use sites,we just use CLs. We also tend, when away for a couple
of weeks, to book no more than a couple of nights in advance, the app is perfect for that .However, from the comments in the Apple App Store it's clear the current app is nowhere near fit for purpose. There are complaints about information bring several years out of date. I will test it when we return to the UK but
it sounds as f it might have been launched before it was fully developed.0 -
The C&CC have just updated their site App and introduced an App to search Out and About meets. One of the upgraded features of the site App is a slider to adjust the search range. I find myself setting this to 10 miles radius most of the time but the slider is still a better feature to have than the Clubs minimum of 25 miles.

There are still mobile phones that this App will not load or work with. If you have a Windows phone the App is useless!! Is the Club going to make this App work for all mobiles? It looks goood on my Android tablet but I cant use it on my phone where I want it.

I don't think many people will use this application on a mobile 'phone unless they have a good magnifying glass. Perfectly usable on a tablet.

I've got it downloaded on my Ipad. I have the magazine app too.

I have only looked at a few of the pages on this app as it has grown to 14 now.
As a motorhomer I, like others apparently, wish to tour and therefore I don't wish to book ahead. We have only recently progressed to an ipad and neither of us has a smart 'phone, as the monthly contract charges are outside are finances, therefore the important
aspect of the app for us will be that the CL information is up to date.As mentioned somewhere else, the sites book is out of date very soon after publication hence the need to put updates in the mag each month and without the old supliment it may be two years before new CL's are seeing a real benefit. In that respect the app
should be better. How often will it be necessary to download a new version of the data for the app?

It does mean you can go without the handbook and the site information should be up to date especially that for CLs. It also works with one of my sat navs, at least for CLs so I can get directions off line. The Club needs to build on that some more so that it interfaces with the major brands of sat navs and also uses the recommended routes to Club sites.

Write your comments here...Morning Peedee, Good to hear that you are able to get the APP to work with your satnav.
It opens up many possibilities for the future.
I'll have a go at getting it to work with mine. Can you let me know which make of sat nav you were using to make the APP work.
K
Kennine, sorry I must have missed this post. The sat nav running on my Android smart phone is OsmAnd+ It is available from Google Play but note, it is not available for Apple devices. You can only get a route to CLs, it will not give a route to the main Club sites. Quite why I am unsure.

I have just checked whether the App has updated with the CL changes announced in the April magazine, it has.

Doesn't this have a knock on effect on the download data you are allocated especially if you are on PAYG?

I'm not sure whether anyone has already said this, but whilst planning and booking sites (CC & CL) across the country, for this summer, by searching the app for sites within specific areas, I find it surprising and annoying that neither the list of sites,
nor the details within, do not contain the reference number of the CC site or CL, which would enable members to immediately refer to the CC map to locate the sites and also be able to find them easily in the handbook. This seems to be a serious omission.
I also feel that having to search with a minimum radius of 25 Miles is too high and should be 10 or even 5 miles, thereby reducing the number of found sites. In addition, the choice of font is too large in a
number of areas, which means that only half of the font is visible (at least, on my Samsung Galaxy 6 edge + which is only 6 months old).0 -

Just tried up to putting the reg in on my iPad and worked OK. Did not actually want a booking so could not try that. Could just be a glitch but if it persists I would try deleting
the app and downloading again.0 -
"Hi everyone,
Just a quick note say thank you to all of you who have downloaded and used the UK site app. As of today the app has been downloaded over 83,000 times and has generated over 10,000 bookings to Club sites as well as well as huge number of bookings at CLs and
affiliated sites. We’re really grateful to all the feedback we have received and will be working hard in the coming months to improve the app and to introduce new features which will be of real value to Club members.
Thanks again and have lovely weekend,"
The app development team.
