What can that APP do any better than the main CC website. ??

Is it just appealing to those who own cheap devices with insufficient computing power to handle the main site.

I find my HTC tablet works well with the main site. (Dont need an APP).   Except of course for this forum, but as we all know thats not the fault of the device.

    Cool

I find it sad that in a country with the best maps in the world (by a long way) we have to accept being forced to use such horridly useless maps as Google purvey. The next generation will think that is all a map is and miss out on 95% of its usefulness.

"What can that APP do any better than the main CC website. ??"

How about the fact that it works offline so you can carry out searches without an Internet connection?

Write your comments here...How about the fact that with the App  there are compatibility issues with certain versions of Android.

That the same version of android works perfectly with the CC main site.

The CC main site beats the App  without a doubt.

It's simples, if the App doesn't work for you, don't use it.

I think it is also easy to assume everyone has access to a lap top or pad. There are always threads on here about attracting new and younger members, to replace us retired folk when go to that 5 star site A lot of, particularly younger,  folk use a phone
almost exclusively and the new app is a lot better on a phone than the main site.

One thing that could do with improving is to make the lack of availability stand out more. At the moment it shows at what I would call an off white and does not stand out much differently to the white of available.

I agree that there are problems with some versions of Android and that those versions work perfectly well with the CC main site. But what if you haven't got an Internet connection, on a CL for instance. How do you look up your next site or CL? The app gives
you the ability to do this. As your happy to continue using the main site that's fine but others will prefer to use new technology as it evolves and maybe even help it to improve.

Write your comments here...Once the CC IT dept sort their problems with their App. I will probably use it in conjunction with their excellent main site.    But if their record in  fixing this forum over the last few years is a testament to their ability,
I could be waiting a very long time.

Once again K your making assumption. How do you know CC IT have anything to do with this app? What about the app Company that was part of the Alan Rogers takeover? Perhaps they are involved in writing this and the other apps. Or is this just another excuse
for you to denigrate the Club? Wink

Correct me if I'm wrong Dave but, when the CC took over Alan Rogers, that company and it's assets became the responsibility of the CC.  If that is the case, the former AR IT company is now a CC IT company.

You probably may know more about the takeover than I do with you living in England and much closer to Head Office.

Please let me know if you agree !!

I have been using the new application on my smartphone and tablet (both Android)  and I have not yet been able to break it.

It is not the fault of the applications or their designers that they have to use the dreadful mapping that comes from Google, etc. and using Post Code centroids as locations.

If there is an apology to be made for a "scurrilious personal remark" - it should be made to me.

This "gentleman" as you put it, called me "churlish and pedantic" when I was patiently trying to help him yesterday to understand the role of Champions and Moderators on CT.

    Cheers

On reflection I tend to agree with the post quering the point of the app. It does not appear to do anything the web site cannot do. It does save going to the bookings page but nothing more.

It does mean you can go without the handbook and the site information should be up to date especially that for CLs. It also works with one of my sat navs, at least for CLs so I can get directions off line. The Club needs to build on that some more so that
it interfaces with the major brands of sat navs and also uses the recommended routes to Club sites.

Downloaded the App to my brand new samsung phone yesterday.  Although a bit slow it does work reasonably well.

So the future is looking good

Being off-line, It could be helpful as an alternative  to  those who are unable to receive a decent phone signal or Wifi

Write your comments here...Morning Peedee, Good to hear that you are able to get the APP to work with your satnav.

It opens up many possibilities for the future.

I'll have a go at getting it to work with mine. Can you let me know which make of  sat nav you were using to make the APP work.

Thank you for the comments.  I will make another list to send to the appropriate person at East Grinstead when I get back from being away in the caravan.  In the meantime, do continue to post observations and ideas for future development.  You can, of course
send feedback of any problems you have encountered and ideas for development directly to appfeedback@caravanclub.co.uk

Last night when the main site, including making a booking went down, I had a look at the App. Because it runs off line it still functioned and I could search for sites. However, it also still showed availability and let me go as far as the final stage in making a booking. I did not actually need to book so I did not proceed and see if it actually completed it. Interesting though, is it separate from the main site in this respect?

That seems unlikely. How would there be updating of bookings if the app AND the site were being used by two people to book a pitch?

I suppose separate is the wrong word. If it gets to the booking server by a different route, as long as the booking server is running, you would be able to book on the app but not on the main site.

I don't get this "offline" bit. If you're trying to book then you clearly need to be "online" in some way.
