    Hi everyone,

Thank you for posting on this thread and yes, the UK site app may well be part of an announcement at the NEC………Smile

For those wondering why we have launched the app but not promoted it, the reason is that although the app is readily available on iPhone and Android devices there is a bespoke iPad version that hasn’t quite made it into the App Store yet. We’re expecting this to become available some point later this week and from then on we’ll be spreading the good news that the UK site app is ready and available for members to download and get using.

Thank you to those who have already downloaded and begun using the app. Our aim was to develop an app that made finding sites, making bookings and managing those bookings as quick, simple and convenient as possible. Your feedback is invaluable, gratefully received and will help guide how we develop and evolve the app going forward.

Thanks again to everyone and we hope to see as a many of you as possible at the NEC the week after next.

Write your comments here...Thanks Rowena, how do we provide feedback for the errors in the App please?

David, I think the day is not too far off when even the desktop will be obsolete. Take my grandchilds statement, they do their schoolwork on smartphones these days.

I assume they are not having to write a thousand word essay on their Smart Phones?  My own view is that desktops and laptops will be around for some time to go because smart phones and tablets are not productive enough. OK you can always add a keyboard but
    that is not as good.

With regards the App, which I have downloaded onto my phone. It seems easy to use but I can't ever see that it will be my main choice to research sites as I like a larger screen. Wonder if there is any chance of it being available in Windows format?

    Hi David,

If no-one from the development team spots this, I'll ask the question....

    Best wishes

    David, Check >this< out.

Rowena, only part of an announcement. Surprised

I was rather hoping that with the App I would not need to download the Clubs' POIs for my sat nav. I am struggling a bit in this area. When I select "View on map" it opens up my Sat Nav application but does not show a map or locate the site. I get a list of address none of which are the site. Is it supposed to do this?

Peedee: Are you iphone or android?

I don't think you have to download anything - unless we're talking about differect things.

If you are android, when you go to the idividual site, scroll down past the 'book now' button, past the site phone number, there is a box to click on for 'Map and detailed directions'.  Click on this and you get onother page with a small map and directions.  At the bottom click in 'View on map', then it opens out and pinpoints the location on google maps.  This works on my device - Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

If you are talking about the results of the search, there is the List view which lists the sites you have searched for.  There is a greyed out Map tab at the top of the page.  If you click on this it shows the location of all the sites in your search result (red pins) on Google maps, together with a black marker to show where you are.  This works on my device.

    Hi everyone,

Feedback on the app can be sent to:

    appfeedback@caravanclub.co.uk

Any out of date CL information needs to be sent to our CL team to update:

    clamendments@caravanclub.co.uk

Also David (DSB) as champion and a tester of the app has kindly volunteered to record feedback from this discussion for fixes and future improvements.

Thanks David (DSB). I was using it off line on an Android tablet and I was looking at the site App to see if it replaced the need to download Club POIs which I use on my sat nav.

The downloadable POIs are not kept in step with the website data and the POIs for the CLs are soon out of date. I hope the App and the website use the same database. If this is so, then the App should be updated in step with the web site..

Ro says there is an iPad version in the pipeline. The current app is phone only. So select iPhone only apps and it will appear. You can load it onto a pad.

Play Store is Google/Android, Steve, so no use for an iPad, I'm afraid.

John, Rowena says it's been launched for Android so it should be available.

    Rowena.

Can down load the app on my phone but not visable in play store on my tablet. Tablet has an older issue of Androd.

Looks like app will not work on older Androd kit.

I'm still a bit confused, to be honest.  If you use it off line, you won't be able to get the location on Google maps, as far as I'm aware.  I can't see any reference to Points/Places Of Interest on the App (or the main site for that matter).

I have just tried it on an Samsung tablet running Android 4.4.2 and it seems pretty professional but one thing I have noticed is that the distance away from the search point only displays if you use "my current location" but if you type in another location
and then search its not displayed.

You are absolutely right, David.  I hadn't spotted that one, but I'll add it to my list.

on the IOS version you still get the distance away from the search point when you set the location. However the minimum distance of 35 miles seems a bit large.

Minimum distance on Android is 25.  It's odd that it should be different!  The maximum diistance on Android is 100.  I think it should be greater, personally.

Just downloaded the App.   It seems fine.  Quick and generally easy to use although it is frustrating that there is no calendar of dates available on each site which is available on the website.  It relies on you just inserting the dates but when they are
full it doesn't give you the opportunity to see when and if there are other dates available.

    Hi Oldgirl and staffy,

in terms of the calendars they show if the site is full or available  for each site. You can scroll through month by month. I just clicked on book now on the site I was looking at. Let me know if it's not obvious as great to have the feedback

DSB thanks for gathering the feedback it's very much appreciated

    Thanks everyone for your comments

Ok sorry if I have confused you, Ignore my comments about POIs. I have two Android devices, a Samsung Tablet which runs Android version 4.4.2  This also runs my Co-Pilot sat nav and a number of other usefull Apps I use for touring. It is a dedicated tablet
to my touring activities. If I use it off line and drill down through the Clubs Site finder App until I eventually get to "View on Map" Going to this screen opens up my sat nav app. I think this was because I had Co-Pilot set to my default mapping device.
However what was displayed by Co-Pilot was rubbish and I think it also corrupted the Co-Pilot files because I have spent most of a frustration afternoon sorting it out.

I also loaded the App onto my smartphone, a Galxy S6 running Android version 5.1.1. and I have had no problems with that in the off line mode when I go to View on Map. It comes up with nothing found as it should.even though I have OsmAnd mapping set as my
    default mapping application.

If I get any further with proving any of the above further I will let you know but having spent most of the afternoon putting Co-pilot back together again I am in no hurry to play around with the tablet apps for a while.

I have had a further play with the smartphone App. (boring telle)

    a) the minimum search area seems to be 25 miles, suggest this should be 10 miles.

    b) when searching an area, e.g. Exeter, selecting the map tab either on or off line does show the map and the sites listed but you do not appear to be able to zoom in to select an individual location.

c)selecting an individual location and bringing up the site details brings up the site fine but I note that, on going to Map and directions for a Club site, you get a fixed map and the View on Map does nothing. I assume this is deliberate if so why display "View on Map? If I select Map and Directions to a CL,  e.g. Rose Coombe Farm, no fixed map is displayed but selecting View on Map takes me into my sat nav app (OsmAnd is my default mapping) fine and displays the location and allows me to set the sat nav up to take me there. I suggest it should also be the same when trying to View on Map perhaps with a cautionary note to check route for the last few miles?

    d) going to the help sections seems to take me everywhere but the App help.
