Never been to Sharm el Sheik, but I certainly know campsites with toilet blocks that are better than those on CC sites - some with private bathrooms, some with private baby and child facilities, some with marble tiles, some with day round cleaners who seem
to live in, some with spacious shower cubicles with room to change in comfort, some with shower gel and toiletries on hand, some with hair driers in each cubicle, some with under floor heating, some where you change your shoes before you go in, some with heated
drying rooms for wet outdoor clothing, some with a sauna or two.  And they tell me that some even have facilities for washing dogs.

I think some people have blind loyalty to this Club.

Are these in France ET?  We found a couple a bit like that in Austria and Italy.

If they are in the ACSI card scheme, or cost less than 20 euros per night out of high season, could you post a list ?

I'm sure it would be appreciated by many!

The mind boggles ! Lets compare a CC site toilet block with the facilities of a luxury expensive resort in a foreign country with an endless supply of cheap labour  !

I didn't realise that "high quality" has many meanings Undecided

“Higher” is surely relative to a base standard? The standard of toilet blocks today is unquestionably better than that of 40 years ago, when the roof was freely ventilated and the only heating was to the water. However, if the price is around twice that
of the pitch (for a couple) it seems to be poor value to me and I’d much prefer the type of site that has no block whatsoever.

    A list Kjell?

The first private bathrooms we found were in Switzerland fully 40 years ago, as far back as that, and things have moved on from there. You say you have come across top quality in Austria and Italy and so have we. ValA has quoted her own experiences of top quality in Spain. Here in Devon many eyes have been opened at Ross Park at Newton Abbot, and we ourselves found a sauna this summer at an unlikely remote camp site near Carcassonne.

But I know very little about sites in the  ACSI card scheme, nor do I limit my travels to sites under 20 euros a night, so perhaps others can help you in that area, not me. I rarely go to Club sites either these days, so really don't know if standards have improved since my last visit to Morn Hill - which didn't impress at all.

I must have different expections of what I might get for £25+ a night, I am afraid that however pristine the grounds are, paying this for a water  supply, power and a shower block does not equate to "high quality"

Fair enough, but an awful lot of people, including us, do think they are high quality. You might think the price high, but does that mean the facilities are not high quality?

I have always been generally happy with CC sited over the last 30+ years - whether they are with or without washing/toilet facilities.

They offer what I want and not what I don't want. This is however a tad off topic in as much as it is, IMO, not altogether relevant regarding pricing.

There are sites in the ACSI Card scheme and in the Camping Cheques scheme with superb toilet blocks - L'Amfora in Spain is one that I mentioned where the newest block is a marble edifice, glossy tiled floors, separate facilities for men and women, an area of smaller toilets and basins for chidlren, a family shower room, rows of pristine toilets, shower cubicles with a separate dressing area, and a decent sit down 'bench',  a resident cleaner, and the block has a central glass 'atrium' and walkway with plants and flowers.

There are also sites with private bathrooms, many of them at ACSI Card prices - so up to 19 euros and on some you don't pay an extra supplement for the private facilities.  Le Champs Blanc is one such.  However, again from experience, the standard of these varies, and the ones at Champs Blanc, are a wooden cabin with toilet, shower cubicle, and a washing up sink in the corner of the pitch.  Still very nice, though, at just 16 euros per night for the pitch and the bathroom.

Again off topic, and apologies to those who think these 'over there' comparisons have no part in threads about sites in this country, but I wanted to correct the spelling for Champs Blancs which is very competitively priced at just 15 euros per night or £11.29 per night for a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electricity.

Here's the site description taken from the ACSI Card site:

At Campsite Les Champs Blancs in Agde (Hérault) camping costs as little as €15,- per night during low season with CampingCard ACSI. At one of the 160 touring pitches you will get a discounted rate during the period 01/04 - 07/07 and 24/08 - 15/10. At this campsite you can not only use your CampingCard ACSI for inexpensive camping, you can also use your ACSI Club ID (as an alternative ID).

Quiet family campsite, 2 km from the sea. Large, heated aquapark and large pitches, marked out by oleander hedges, a few even have private toilet facilities. WiFi on the grounds and many activities for everybody.

    Campsite Les Champs Blancs

Looks a very nice place and very good value out of season. However, the same pitch if you are unfortunate enough to have to holiday in the school summer holidays will cost you 60€ a night.

Val was writing of pitches with private bathrooms, these according to the website are 60€ a night for end of July early August dates. I would agree the standard pitches are €50.50. When their peak season is does not really matter to the average family with kids as they are likely to be taking there summer holiday rather than a short break earlier in the year. It is a bit far for that. Agreed it is great for us retired folk.

Again OT, but just to note that Camping L'Amforma also offers private facility pitches - 180 sq m pitches, your own private toilet & shower.  Not cheap though (doubt you'll get them on ACSI scheme)....but the relationship back to this thread is that CC toilet blocks can be considered good quality - but they're absolutely not the highest quality/state-of-the-art as some would believe.

It's not a vast difference, but I did notice that if families at least wait for the last couple of weeks of August, prices seem to edge off by 10-20%.

BB, the price for 2 adults and 2 children at Hillhead in peak is £48.00 per night Surprised

Will your price you quoted of £37.96 increase with 2 children?

Even the most ardent admirer of Hillhead will surely admit there is absolutely no comparison between the 2 swimming pools

A big thank you to Valda for starting a thread on facilities on continental sites in the overseas section. Perhaps those who wish to post about this could use that section and allow this one to concentrate on UK sites, which I believe the title indicates
    is appropriate. Happy

OK Moulsey, I'll just stick with the fact that £48.00/ night for a site with a boring pool is very expensive Happy

I would agree up to a point moulesy, it depends what is being discussed. Although in the UK section, the heading is site pricing  Surely some comparison with those abroad is acceptable. It would be difficult to know what section to discuss a comparison in
    otherwise.

"Bang for your buck" is the nub of the discussion. Leaving aside comparisons with overseas sites, which generally offer better value site facilities for site facilities, CC sites are reasonably competitive with comparable commercials in high season but are
uncompetitive in low season, Sandy Balls often being cited as an example.

Surely HH is not your normal style, BB? I see it as being for young families who go for the site rather than the sights around, remaining on site for most of their visit. A completely different experience from touring.

There should be little surprise that prices are lower elsewhere. It’s a simple matter of supply and demand.
