Fair comment BB
Have to say though, when I come to this section of the forum to hear opinions about UK Sites & Touring, I'm not really interested when someone says "it's cheaper in France/Spain/etc"
I'm really not interested in what is going on over there.
If I was - I would look in the Overseas Sites & Touring Section, and expect to see it discussed there?

It may be cheaper than here but are incomes less there too and is the economy there as good as here?
When we were staying on Littlehampton Club site we met a couple who sold their property in France to return and buy a motorhome to live in here in UK. It's all very well to think the grass is greener on the other side. When you actually try making a life
over there, it's a different story! Many people try life abroad full of hope and eventually come back disillusioned.I think this may have to do with lots of things other than prices and wages.......
Missing your family
Deteriorating health with age
Inability to learn a foreign language
Inability therefor to make friends anf become part of the community
Why did this particular couple return?
Write your comments here...Mike and Sue missed their family and friends here. They also said that living in France was very expensive and not to be misled by discounted holiday costs. We met them again when we were staying in Gatwick.

I think those comments came from someone else Bugs, someone who prefers travelling abroad. The main gist of the thread was about CC price increases.

Most of us on this forum are members of the Caravan Club and so should trust that the club is going to give us a fair deal on pricing. If we didn't believe that, we wouldn't have joined in the first place. The increased prices hasn't put us off using the club sites. We're continuing to use them because we are happy with what we are getting. My situation is similar to Bugs. I've been abroad in the past and feel that I have done enough of that for the time being and prefer the less stress of being on the familiar territory of UK Caravan Club sites where I feel at home.

I just got my C&CC sites book today and their prices do appear comparable with the clubs for two people but they make the charge per head and have fixed prices for families. For four adults in a caravan they would be very expensive but for singles probably
cheaper. The very different system makes it hard to compare but for most of us I doubt you would make any serious saving.

No matter what forum you read, there is always topic drift, it's part and parcel of a forum.
When disicussing prices, if posters think UK site are more expensive, or even less expensive, than some other country, should they not be allowed to say so here?
It's not any different from stating in the overseas section that some aspects of sites in other countries are worse, or better, than UK sites.
Europe is only 20 odd miles from UK, and we are still part of the EU, so we cannot be totally isolationist.
I can say, quite truthfully, that for us, as my wife needs help with showering, we find the facilities on CC sites suit us much better than 90% of the sites abroad that we have been to.
We don't need swimming pools, or on-site bars and restaurants either, but we do like seeng new and interesting places, in any country. We also enjoy slightly warmer weather and find the prices abroad good at the times we travel. So we ignore the facilities and use the excellent ones we have in the caravan.
Quite often, if we are a distance from the toilet block, we do the same on CC sites, and of course when we use CLs.
We don't think it is better in Europe, just different. We also enjoy touring in the UK, but do find it increasingly expensive.
I feel that we are not getting as good value for money as we were 15 years back, but continue to use CC sites in the low season when prices are more reasonable as we find they suit us.
There is more to the Club than the sites. We are members for the Mayday cover, the ferry offers, the overseas insurance, car insurance, and the CLs too.

"Europe is only 20 odd miles from UK"
Not from Northumberland!!
And there's really no need for "topic drift" when there are clear Sections for discussing UK Sites or Foreign Sites?
Bugs
I think this topic has drifted in far more directions than just comparing UK and foreign sites!

I agree
It might be worth reminding everyone of the OP!
Whoa has anyone else noticed the steep increase in site fees!!! Also how come there seems to be no renovations of any sites in Scotland. On many sites we visit toilet blocks badly in need of an overhaul.
NB - no mention of Europe!!
Cheers

Surely if you are comparing UK and European sites it is going to have to be in one section or the other. Or should it be in caravan and motor home chat? I must admit to being a bit confused. Is it not allowed to compare sites on either side of the channel?

Why the need for comparison? The OP is about UK Sites.
The Section is about UK Sites - for folks who use UK Sites.

If a restaurant is charging more than I want to pay I go somewhere else.
But if a caravan site is charging more than some people want to pay they write to a forum about it. Repeatedly.

I think if you look at the majority of posts above that is what they are saying. Some are happy, or at least accept the charges, others look elsewhere.

I agree. But if a restaurant was charging more than I want to pay - would I really say that going to the expense of travelling to France, Spain etc is an alternative?
That is why I have problems with folks in a Section dedicated to UK Sites & Touring introducing examples of "its cheaper abroad" - when the folks who come to "UK Sites & Touring" are actually interested in touring in the UK.

To be fair to those who think this isn't the place for comparisons, perhaps we should have a sticky on "Differences between 'over there' and 'here'") so we could debate this subject permanently, and those of use who like it 'over there' could try to convince those 'who wouldn't go there with a barge pole' to just dip their toes in the water and see what they think. Those who think we should see more of this beautiful country could argue from the opposite point of view! I managed to convince one long-standing CT contributor (unfortunately now banned) that he should try it, and he did. He's booked again for next year!!
It might even get the same number of posts as the long-running threads on here about Arrival Times and Sunday Departures (none of which are a problem 'over there'!)

those 'who wouldn't go there with a barge pole' to just dip their toes in the water and see what they think.I'd be happy to endorse that Val.
But I would suggest that anyone interested in going "over there" would naturally look in the "Overseas Sites & Touring" Section?
Anyone more interested in touring in the UK would, of course, look here.
So maybe the "comparison" discussion is best in the other section.
Cheers

I thought this was a good question, which has not yet been answered.

I don't think you can compair "over there to over here " ,they are different cultures and outlooks, " here" seems to be make as much money as you can from people ,whereas "overthere" its about makeing sure people enjoy their stay and the customer comes first
, no I don't go overseas ,but that's not to say I wouldn't ,it's just at this time it's not practical , and if I did go ( must get a passport) I would go to NormandyAnyway if a thread drifts isn't up to the Mods to get it back on track ????
