In praise of Bonterra Parc, Benicassim

We had a booking for February 2025 at Bonterra Parc. It is the only site abroad for which we make a booking as it is - deservedly - popular (we have been regular visitors since 2012) and I’d reserved whilst there in 2024.

Unfortunately, early in 2025 I underwent surgery, so we cancelled. Obligingly, the site transferred the booking, and the deposit, to February this year. But treatment following surgery lasted all last year and, by early January, it was obvious I would not be fit to travel.

Reluctantly, we cancelled again.

Bonterra Parc staff were sympathetic and said that, sadly, they can transfer a booking and deposit only once and so they would refund my deposit in full. This they did promptly.

I was astounded, as I had been fully prepared to lose the deposit. (I also reflected that had I booked via the Club I would have lost the deposit; claiming on travel insurance would have been fruitless: cost of a medical note and policy excess would have been more that the deposit lost.)

The understanding of the site staff is, I think, impressive. It’s probably good business sense too as, with luck, we hope to make it there in 2027, such is the goodwill.

Most of the times we went abroad we tended to arrive at sites on an ad hoc basis so we have never done a longer stay, booked in advance, so early in the year, Having said that, well done to the site in question a few UK sites could learn a lesson there? Also it was only the deposit where most non Club UK sites also require advance payment before arrival.
