Ferry crossing over the Gironde Estuary

We are staying in Vias Plage in August and are looking at options for a two night stay en route back to Caen. We are looking at staying in Soulac Plage near Soulac-sur-Mer. My question is has anyone had any experience of using the ferry service across the Gironde Estuary from Le Verdon-sur-Mer to Royan? If so, how busy does it get, is it quite an easy service to use and how much would it be for 2 adults, 2 children, car and caravan. Many thanks in advance.

If you check out Google Earth, best of the Royan side, it seems to show caravans and motorhomes waiting to use it. As to price probably best to do a Google search?

I have googled it, but mainly concerned over timings and if anyone has any experience of being held in queue for a while, whilst waiting to cross due to passenger numbers.

It’s an easy ferry to access with a caravan but may well be busy for your visit in August . At that time of year the ferry sails once an hour (approx) and if it’s full you may have to wait an hour for the next. I would say leave the Soulac site early in the morning and get ahead of the crowd.
