Caravan Shipping Length for ferry crossings & European Breakdown Cover for Caravan

Hello lovelies

I'm planning to take my caravan over to The Netherlands in August and go to a festival for 4 nights then take a further 4 / 5 nights in The Netherlands before coming home. I'm thinking of going out on the night crossing from Harwich to Hoek van Hollande and returning via calais - dover

My first question is about shipping length requested by the ferry companies. I have a 2012 Adria Adora which has a long A frame. The club has it as 6.65m, but i think that's the body length not the shipping length. I think my 'van has a shipping length of 7.98m. If i book through the club, it's a good £125 cheaper than booking with Stena, but i don't want to get to Harwich and be refused boarding because I'm overlength. Has anyone had this experience or any advice?

2ndly, I've just had a look at the new GreenFlag European Mayday policy, and the details about what is covered for the caravan are vague to say the least. Has anyone taken a policy for a caravan out with the club who could clarify please?

Thanks

Bex

Which model of Adora do you have?

If you are going on a ship you must tell them the shipping length. The clue is in the name.

Green Flag will provide a detailed policy document on line for their European Mayday policy .
Personal medical insurance is extra and it’s sensible to have that insurance too.

I hope your trip goes well.

The Harwich to Hook of Holland crossing has generally been a lot cheaper if booked through the club as opposed to direct, as caravans go free on some crossings if booked well in advance, so £125 does not surprise me. It is for this reason I used them in 2022 and am using them again this summer. We have gone for a daytime crossing at £147 for our 6m caravan and car combination. This includes a £25 cost for a cabin, something we chose as we are travelling through the night from Devon/Cornwall borders. For us this is cheaper and more convenient than getting a site close to Harwich. We also chose to return further south, but found the mid morning crossing on Eurotunnel via the club a better price/time combination.

Hi, I have the 612DP with the rear inline island bed. It is a gorgeous caravan.

Thanks for the advice about shipping length, I'll go with the correct shipping length.

I did have a look at the European mayday policy online, but couldn't see anything specific about caravan cover.

I can't use AA European cover because they won't take caravans over 7.5m.

I'll phone the club and ask.

    Thanks

I'll be travelling to Harwich from Oxfordshire on a Wednesday evening because the festival starts at midday on the Thursday, so it's really the only sensible crossing.

Coming home, I do quite fancy a night in Belgium before rolling in to Calais. I have always thought Eurotunnel was really expensive, I'll have a look at the club prices, but I remain to be convinced Eurotunnel will be able to match the ferry.

Hope you have a lovely time in the summer
