We are looking to book a week in Saint Malo last week in May as the last leg of our European trip. We are meeting friends who are also CAMC members but neither of us have been to Saint Malo but heard lots of great things. We love walking , so are looking for a campsite that will offer the opportunity to explore on foot (and stop at a pub/restaurant), where possible. Does anyone have any suggestions of campsites that are in/near Saint Malo?

The tourist office in St Malo will advise you if you want a campsite actually in the town itself. I don’t know them. But there is a 25 mile stretch of coast to the west of the town which is the area we know best . There is an alteration of resorts and and undeveloped stretches and certainly you will find opportunities for coastal walks in that area.

Choosing sites is a very personal thing and hard to know what you would like. With a car for daily transport we have stayed along that coast in the villages of Pleboulle (Camping la freche a l’ane) and Matignon (Camping le Vallon aux Merlettes) - both are a few miles inland , and driven out every day to explore the whole coastal stretch from there. They are mid range sites and we liked them and their owners. But for anyone who wants to leave a motor home motionless on a site for a week neither of them will be suitable. You need transport.

A final point is do you really need to book if you are visiting in May? I would go and look and choose.

The above site is situated within walking distance of the exceptionally beautiful town of Dinan. It's used by many British tourers as it's within easy driving distance of St.Malo, itself worth exploring around the old walls. We've not used the site for a few years now so wouldn't like to tell you what the current situation is but regardless of where you stay Dinan should be on your list of places to visit.

We have also many years ago stopped at a site near Cancale, to the east of St.Malo but not far away. Just can't remember the name.

Couple of photos of Dinan, one of them showing the walk in from the campsite along the river

Thank you for this, we have booked La Hallerais - we checked trip advisor/and other portals for more recent reviews and it appears that everyone recommends Dinan and really looking forward to it. Thanks so much
