Santander to Seville in a motorhome for winter sun
Hi. We’re looking to do a 2/3 week road trip in our motorhome & would really appreciate some advice. We’re looking to go by ferry to Santander, then travel down to spend roughly a week/10 days around the Seville/coast area, before returning home. Looking at early March this year & hoping for some winter sun! Would really appreciate some recommendations for campsites and best route to Seville. Thinking either 1 or 2 stops between Santander & Seville, then maybe 2 sites around the Seville area. Thank you.

This is the route I would use:
Camp sites:
Salamanca Camping Regio, a popular open all year site associated with an hotel, bus stop outside for trips into Salamanca. A great place to visit
Sevilla, Camping Villsom, Dos Hermanas, often wanted to stop here for the access to the bus into Sevilla but not yet done so.
El Puerto Santa Maria Camping Las Dunas now Camping Taiga, beachside site within walking distance of Santa Maria and ferry to Cadiz. Cadiz is wonderful and Jerez is worth a visit for the Sherry houses and the Spanish Riding School shows.

You are sensible to wait until March. The weather over there is frightful right now - storms ,rain, and floods.

thanks for the helpful comments. We have now decided to go in early September, extend the trip to 3 weeks and to incorporate a week or so in Portugal as well! Lots of planning and research to do, so any advice on routes, areas to stay/visit and campsites would be really appreciated. Thanks

TBH we've never been so far into Spain, but I guess the weather would still be excellent in September. As regards to sites, when we've been into Europe, we've often used Alan Rogers Good Camps Guide. Also, it may be worth looking at UKCampsite.co.uk. They cover Europe too, with lots of 'user reports'.

Camping Caceres (just outside of Caceres and easy for the motorway) for a stop over. Make sure you stay a couple of nights and don't miss seeing the old town ( you can get a bus from outside the campsite, or walk or cycle in).
Definitely Get an ACSI card for cheaper prices if you don't already have one .
Camping El Astral campsite at Tordesillas is really good for on the way back (also has the best food we've ever had at a campsite restaurant) and local wine . The town is a little gem. especially the museum, the convent ( and small) Arabian baths. Also the underground winery tour (its small but is as fascinating for the local history bit as well as the wine.
Second, Camping Las Dunas - weve been several times , also Camping Rosaleda at Conil
We usually stop at camping Vigen de Mer on the way back .. its quite basic but very near to the ferryport .
We were going next week but have put it back now until the end of March .. The weather is horrendous out there atm. Sadly was this time last year also - we had 5 weeks of pretty much solid rain last spring , hopefully not this year.

RivaGold155, As you said you were also going into Portugal I offer a few words from a daughter who is just back from a ten day fly in and out road tour there.
Her advice for motorhomers is to drop the idea of finding the “best” campsite you can and leaving your vehicle on site - that’s old style caravan thinking. She would say choose the places you want to go to and find motorhome parking - from an app or local advice - when you get there. Her picks were Evora, Nazare., Monsaraz, and Vila Vicosa - none of them ever before mentioned on here. Your picks will be different so do your homework before you go. Choose the places you want to visit instead of choosing campsites. Drive around from place to place instead of leaving your motorhome on a campsite, even if it has top class recommendations and reviews.0 -
RivaGold155, We stayed here for 2 nights back in 2018 during our tour of Spain in our 6.4m overall length, 2 berth caravan. The site is very rustic but lots of pitches tended to be very short in length. We had to abandon our first choice pitch as it was impossible to pitch even with the mover. We finally managed to squeeze on an alternative. However, it was very handy for the bus to Seville

The site at Dos Hermanas is very handy for the local bus. Not quite the standard of most club sites but good enough for what we wanted. A few years since we were last there though.
Jerez, not far away, makes a handy day out. Much smaller than Seville but we liked it.
As mentioned above Camping Caceres well worth a stop.
