@Takethedogalong yes it was, I thought it was funny as CT often gets quotes that give the give the (mistaken in my view) idea that club sites are only full of retired folk and of course there's no need for any more supervision than already occurs as you say, apart from the adults😀

On other campsites in other countries we have come across a mini version of a park run every morning with about 20 adults and kids taking part, guided town walks, canoe hire and bike hire, a shuttle bus into city, a whole campsite group meal, a communal barbecue pit, a craft sale fair, wine sales as well as wine tasting, a mini market of local fruit and honey on sale, a 25 a side all age football match which went on and grew bigger every night for a week, table tennis, full size tennis, keep fit gym equipment, aqua gym, a partisan crowd watching big screen international football, a school band performance, an informal folk singing group, a group of alpenhorn players , several site owners who cook - and the well remembered drinks party on Bastille day at Eygalieres. I think it’s great that the club is thinking of livening up some very dull UK caravan sites where nothing ever happens.

@peedee , I don’t think you have to be “Centre” minded to be interested in most of the things listed, lots of non centre members cycle, walk, cook, like wines, do crafts, keep fit, etc…… it’s a way of getting some folks from out of their awnings, watching a bit less TV or doom scrolling, and enjoying the more social opportunities that unite folks, for those that want to do a bit of something different. Hidden away in their own little camping bubble are lots of creative, energetic, very social folks, who might dip a toe into one or two events, and thoroughly enjoy them. I’d give most a try. It’s similar to what organisations like the NT do, with foraging, cycling, walking sessions, craft sessions, even their shops do a bit of wine tasting, I know, I tried Ginger Wine and have to limit my intake🤭 I’d love a silent disco with friends, particularly outdoors on a summer evening.

You have not been on a centre rally then @Takethedogalong ?

It can be amusing trying to understand the “spin” that some folks put onto suggestions of this sort. Admittedly, I did know what a silent disco was, and had come at it from a “it’s an individual choice” and had thought about things from a social point of view. We often do a walk with people we have met on Club Sites, and share a cuppa etc…. I often get a table set up outside on a sunny day and do a bit of crafting, there’s usually a few that are interested enough to enquire what I am doing. I had quite a few around one time when I was clipping our terriers, (not a Club Site) some of the fellas asked if I did hair cuts🤣

No, not a Club rally, but I have been on sites where they are happening, plus we have done camping with other like minded individuals who share a hobby. Off road weekends, you spend the day thundering around mud, hill climbs, swamps, rock climbs, busting axles and leaving important vehicle bits embedded in trees or a swamp. Close down of driving it’s all about putting things back together for next day, washing off the mud, then it’s evening fun time, and not a TV in sight. As EuroT says, UK campsites are boring……………..I think not🤣 It came out one weekend that there was a professional Elvis impersonator booked in with his Jeep, he was persuaded to perform and we all had a fantastic time. The Dutch come over in droves to such events, a few Germans as well, so it’s good fun. Charity events, fundraising for air ambulances, they are sometimes required😱

UK campsites, we have done canoeing, power craft, walking, had food cooked, watched visiting Morris Dancers, farm sites often let you watch milking, sheep shearing, general farm visits, lots offer home cooked cakes, biscuits, fruit and veg, cider quaffing, kids games that expand each evening, fly casting being taught, horse riding, horse racing (thank you Caravan Club👍) Could have done a Park run at BurrsCP site. And let’s not forget the steam trains at Ferry Meadows, Burrs CP, Beddgelert. We have found loads to do on campsites in UK, good to know it’s same overseas

I don't think club sites are boring or dull in any way, they are a place to rest up after a day out or en route to somewhere, with family and sometimes friends, or have a chat with other campers. They are no more boring or dull than any other place where one stays overnight and really you choose if you make then dull or not by what you do while you're there. On balance I get my activities outside of campsites but would welcome some of the planned activities they are going to put on.

Last year, we stayed on a CCC site, Kendal. Whilst having our evening meal, the chap opposite (in his awning) sang and played his acoustic guitar (not loudly) for around an hour. Magical really and much appreciated. I counted myself lucky.
