Best way to find out about sites in France?
Can anyone recommend the best way/website to find out about campsites in France?
We are planning a trip to Northern France in September to do the second world war sites and also explore some of the local area.
Thanks

Good news is you are spoilt for choice. Whilst I don't think there is a best website you have some very good ones to look at, and we use many.
We usually look here Campsites in France and French Campsites, using the filter options to really narrow things down and here CampingCard ACSI | Inexpensive camping in the low season The Clubs own affiliation to sites is also good, but not so many sites. European Caravan and Camping Holidays | The Caravan and Motorhome Club | The Caravan Club
The ACSI is very good when camping out of high season and well worth the cost of joining.
The same campsites will obviously appear across different web pages and we usually have a mix and match in how we book, as offers can always be found.

Years ago, when we used to go regularly to France, in the summer, we always used to use 'Alan Rogers Good Camps Guide'. In recent years, it's been taken over by the Club. This link may be of help....
Try the map option (link at the top of the page), to find a site close to the area you want to visit.

Hi Jane, Google tells me everything I want to know.
I don’t start by choosing a campsite. I start by choosing the place I want to visit. If I were going with a campervan like yours to the American military cemetery at Colleville sur mer and wanted a night or two nearby I would google Camping Colleville sur Mer and look at the answers. From those nearby I would choose Camping le Picard. I wouldn’t book in advance. I would just go there .Smile, say bon jour.Job done. Move on . Repeat for next place.

My only advice is DO Not book in advance, just go with the flow. There will be lots of sites in the area you intend to visit, - inspect the one you have chosen before pitching and if you don't like it go elsewhere. Sites won't be full in September ( might even be ready for closing down), stay as long as you like and pay on departure,

I use >SearchforSites< or if you have a motorhome you may want to consider using >Campercontact< or >CampingCarpark<

There are so many resources online its an almost impossible question to answer. At least you have an idea of what area you wish to stay in. Do you want sites where you can walk or cycle to a destination or are you happy to take the car?(assuming you are a caravanner rather that motorhomer? The ACSI book, as already suggested, is a useful start. It may also depend of what sort of site you want, basic or fully featured, You mentioned going in September, worth remembering that towards the end of the month some sites will start to close for the season but you should still have plenty of choice. Perhaps once you have got a short list of sites you can always come back here to see if others have personal expereience of the individual sites you have short listed.
