Taking food from the U.K. to Holland.
Has anyone any experience of trying to take dog food (or food for us humans for that matter) on the Stena Harwich - Hook of Holland crossing or is it a case of just buying everything once you’re over there?
Dave.

The official answer is that it’s not allowed , but many people would take what they need for the first couple of days and then go shopping

It's not just the Netherlands but the whole EU, for additional information check out the DEFRA website, unfortunately just another Brexit bonus.

No dairy or meat is allowed to be taken, but I have yet to come across anybody who has been stopped and goods confiscated. The majority of campers I have met have continued to take the remnants of the home fridge along with a few meals. Since 2022 I have crossed out via Plymouth, Folkstone and Dover, back via Roscoff, Dieppe and Hook of Holland. On no occasion has my caravan fridge or the 40L fridge/freezer in my car boot been checked.

The rules are basically written to prevent lorry loads of meat and dairy products from crossing the Channel, not with small amounts for personal consumption in mind. It would really be an overzealous customs officer to take exception to what you may have in your fridge and even then the worst that would happen is that it’s confiscated.1

Been across with caravan on Stena Harwich - Hook of Holland service twice over the past year. No checks at all on food being transported outbound or inbound. We had a small amount of meat and dairy, and took the view that the worst that would happen is it would be confiscated.
