Here are a couple not published before:
Autocamp Vipiteno Located just off the autostrada at the top of the Brenner pass just before the toll gates if travelling north. It is part of the Autoporto and this hard standing large stopover area is for both caravans and motorhomes and can be very useful for those travelling to and from Italy via the Brenner.

The link's not working for me, PD.

@peedee That is a reassuring story and well reported. Just goes to show what can be achieved if people see it as a solution to an issue rather than a problem. Obviously won't be able to be done everywhere but even if it happens in a few places along a popular route it takes the pressure off elsewhere.

@peedee thanks for posting. An interesting read and it shows what can be done, a win-win for everyone. I can see the campsites' point of view to an extent, but an aire is a different concept to a campsite. Many MHs only want somewhere to stay for a night as a stopover and don't need facilities. Whereas others want to stay put for a few days or a week with facilities. I think they complement each other and it could be argued that the MHs staying on these aires are actually freeing up pitches on campsites for those wanting to stay for a week.

It’s old news. The Aire is a section of the West Beach Car Park at Findhorn. Overnight parking there is not new - a local report says it was allowed on that car park from 2018 and that there were sometimes 50 or 60 motor homes there . It was free of charge - that’s what many motorhomers like. But a decision was taken in 2021 to divide a section of that car park and impose a charge - it’s now £17 a night and the numbers are limited to 21. So I suppose the other 30 or 40 have found somewhere else where they needn’t pay.
