Advice on route & sites

Hi. We are planning a trip to the Black Forest in late August 2026 with our caravan. We intend sailing Hull_ Rotterdam and then down via Luxembourg to Titisee area. Advice on a route would be great and we intend two overnight stops on way down and back, so recommendations are welcome. I don't like to drive for more than 150 or so miles in a day.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Ray.

That is a distance of about 430 miles so you will need at least two night stops. I cannot help with sites but unless you particularly want to go via Luxembourg, I would head across the Netherlands into Germany then head south using the free motorways through Germany to Titisee. This avoids Antwerp, which can be very congested, and French toll roads.

If you are going in August you might want to book your main site, We have been to Germany many times but usually ot of the summer high season. I don't know if this link from my website will be any use but there are quite a few German sites list. Just a word f caution some of the reviews are quite old so if you find one that suits maybe seek a second opinion?

Ray, if you just want a direct route then ViaMichelin, or GoogleMaps, or AARoutefinder, or your own SatNav, or an old fashioned paper map will all of them show you.
But are you prepared to zig zag and divert to visit interesting towns along the way which you would like to visit and where you could spend a day, - or do you just want to identify caravan sites 150 miles apart?

Thanks for comments. Eurotraveller, we are quite happy to zig zag but sticking to the 150miles driving.

You mentioned earlier about going via Luxembourg, and Camping Kockelscheuer is an easy site there - easy access from the motorway and easy to go into the city with a free bus from the gate. But it’s 220 miles from your starting point at Rotterdam - well beyond your 150 mile daily limit - so if you chose to stop there it would have to be your second night.

Hi there, we have been to the Black Forest 3 times now and always take the Hull to Rotterdam ferry as we live in Scotland. We do travel more than 150 miles between sites, probably nearer 250 miles, and we usually go away for 3 weeks so book 4 sites on average for the duration of the trip. We plan our journeys with the satnav and using AA routeplanner as a general guide.

You mentioned Luxembourg and we stayed at Camping Gritt which I can recommend. Free public transport so we got the bus to Luxembourg City for a day trip. Site facilities are good with shower block, restaurant and shops a short walkable distance away. We've also stayed at Rudesheim Campsite which may fit in with your 150 mile limit and gets you further south. Lovely site on the River Rhein, access to public swimming pool, river cruises and the town itself is lovely. We have stayed twice at Camping Belchenblick in the Black Forest. It's not the Titisee area although we drove to Titisee when we were there, about 40 minutes drive away. Titisee is quite touristy but definitely worth a visit. Belchenblick is just off the motorway, nice site next to the river and walk into Staufen which is really pretty and has shops, bars and restaurants. You can get the train or bus from here to Freiburg/Basel and public transport is free with the Konus Karte. Finally, we have stayed at Azur Camping Wertheim twice as a halfway stopover on our way back up. It's not too far off the motorway and ideal for a couple of nights. Delfste Hout in Delft is perfect for a last night stop to be close to the ferry from Rotterdam.
