Earliest arrival time at Caen for the 8.30 am crossing

Hi, does anyone have recent experience of earliest arrival time at the Caen ferry terminal for an 8.30 crossing to Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries. We are planning to drive through the night and so being able to park up at the terminal as early as possible would be helpful. BF are quoting 3 hours before sailing. Is that the experience of those travelling this Summer ?

    Previous sailing is at 2330 so you can line up any time after that and wait for the morning check ins to re open.

    Oh is that still the case ? I read somewhere on here that it had been stopped due to trouble with potential stowaways.

    Hi, the problem is I don’t know who told you that .

    If it was a firm order from the ferry company (like do NOT arrive at a camp site before 1300) then I might obey it. If it was just advice I would think about it. Although it could be something somebody once wrote on social media in which case it must be true.

    What would this old man do? I would go a bit earlier and have a comfortable cabin on the overnight sailing, but the ball is in your court. I hope it all goes well for you.

    Thanks. I checked and found the posting mentioned was actually on Motorhome Fun in May this year. When we booked the ferry there were no cabins available on either of the Fri or Sat overnight sailings and we didn't want to repeat last year's seat only discomfort. Arriving at Caen with a caravan late at night just seems a risky business having read others' experiences. So hence my request here. However as luck would have it, I just checked and found a cabin available on the Sat overnight sailing so have solved the problem and can stop worrying !
