Mayday Query after watching a disaster.
Hi All,
I’m currently watching a series of TikToks being made by a couple as they try to get home who are having a nightmare with Mayday Cover.
My question is - we keep/store our caravan 120 miles from home and take it off a season pitch when we need it. If we or the caravan breaks down whilst away?
Will Mayday recover the caravan to where it is stored and the car to our local garage or home?
Thanks
Andy

The nightmare I’ve been watching has been unfolding today which I’ve summarised below….

Their car broke down on site and were to be recovered the next day at 9am with their caravan being taken back to storage (hence my query). Then on the following day that became 11, then 1 and they turned up at 1.30.
The recovery however would not take them home and deposited them on route at Scotch Corner services until someone else turned up and recovered them the rest of the way. When that other company turned up, they didn’t have cables or boards to put power up the caravan lights or put lights on the rear, so the owner of the caravan rightly said that wasn’t legal.
So in response the company have (quite wrongly) cancelled their entire recovery and left them, their car and their caravan stranded at Scotch Corner with no further recovery arranged.
it doesn’t paint Mayday in a good light.

And yet, both @Cornersteady and myself had the totally opposite experience.

I feel there is more to this story than we know.

With many breakdowns under my belt I always felt the best answer was to live in the caravan on a site for a few days and get the car repaired locally. But like TW I don’t know enough of this story, or why the poor people attempted a different solution to their predicament.

If it’s on social media, it must be accurate🙄.
As for the OP’s question, either study your policy for the terms or ring and ask. Both are likely to be more accurate than our opinions.

yes indeed!

It must be the season but I used Mayday about two weeks ago when I found the coolant bottle in our smaller car totally empty at home, the garage said do not drive it (even though I'd possibly been driving for some time like that) and so as we have all our cars on Mayday we called them up. As we were safely at home we were told it was not classed as a priority but within two hours it was loaded onto a truck and taken to the garage so excellent service and @Rowena please pass on our thanks.
It's been fixed now, the thermostat unit had failed and it was leaking from there. A somewhat costly repair (aka ouch) the car is eight years old so perhaps time to start looking for a new one.
But back to the OP. Tik tok is not necessarily real life and they are often staged to make money I assume.
There have been plenty of posts about Green Flag/Mayday and all positive as I recall but ring in.

Rational people don’t rely upon guff like Tik Tok for answers, they do some proper research, and set up their rescue and recovery with the recovery service they choose, ensuring they know all the details before taking out the policy.
We had our MH brought home one time from Mid Norfolk to South Yorks, (not Mayday), and we knew it would be relayed. CL to a service station, service station to repair garage, agreed with us. They couldn’t transport dogs, which we were already aware of so OH travelled with MH, a family member picked myself and the dogs up. Everything went without a hitch, and we didn’t feel like we had to video the whole thing and make it a drama.
Mayday is usually considered excellent, and there are also other R&R services out there who are very good, like ours. Tik Tok is full of twaddle, half truths, and in some instances downright dangerous advice. As I said earlier, the sensible don’t rely upon it.
Correct about there being more to the story……I have just checked the comments on their TikTok, and the recovery driver has responded to their video. He acknowledged his truck had an electrical fault, so he couldn’t put lights on the caravan behind. He did however offer to take the car home, then go all the way back and take the caravan back as well, so two full there and back journeys. They refused, so he went onto his next job. Hey ho. The caravan was safe in a big layby, assume it would be comfy and warm and dry for the wait, meal making facilities, toilet on board, I think we would have said a huge thank you to the recovery driver, but folks differ……

Thank you for making us aware of the situation and we will investigate with Green Flag.
@Boff180 please feel free to email us externalproducts@camc.com to ask any questions you have about policy. A member of the team will be more than happy to help.
