Mayday - Outstanding Service

For the first time in my 10 years membership of the Club's Mayday recovery service, I called them out for assistance, yesterday. I felt a little guilty because it was simply to change a wheel on the caravan - but because of my mobility problems, felt I just couldn't manage it - plus we had managed to limp into the Club site at Broadway - so it was hardly an emergency.
We had made the journey from Devon to the Cotswolds with a very slow puncture - a constant eye on the TPMS monitor and a slow and very careful trip up the M5.
Within about an hour of making the call, David from the Cotswolds Recovery Company arrived on site. I explained to him what had happened and what was required and pointed out that since, every year the van had been to our dealership for service, I had specifically requested that the carrier be greased, he wouldn't have a problem getting the spare out.
Within about 10 minutes of getting to work it became obvious that there were problems and I know that anyone else would have given up. David didn't and continued for at least an hour until he had completely dismantled the rack and tyre and removed it from the van. It was then apparent that, not only were the sliders totally rusted and had never, ever, been greased, the tyre was virtually welded to the carrier with rust, and the tyre was also completely flat! My dealer will be hearing from me shortly!
I then suggested we try to get the original tyre repaired, having identified a very small nail present in the middle of the tread. Together, we went across the road to the nearby garage, where he explained the situation to the owner - emphasised my mobility issues - and the tyre was repaired with 15 minutes!
We brought it back to the van and it was fitted and we are now ready to move on again.
When people talk about someone 'going the extra mile' - that's what David did. I suspect many others would have walked away after discovering what he found. He was not only incredibly competent and professional but also sympathetic and understanding of my situation.
I really could not have asked for - or expected better service - simply outstanding!

It must be the season but I used Mayday about two weeks ago when I found the coolant bottle in our smaller car totally empty at home, the garage said do not drive it (even though I'd possibly been driving for some time like that) and so as we have all our cars on Mayday we called them up. As we were safely at home we were told it was not classed as a priority but within two hours it was loaded onto a truck and taken to the garage so excellent service and @Rowena please pass on our thanks.
It's been fixed now, the thermostat unit had failed and it was leaking from there. A somewhat costly repair (aka ouch) the car is eight years old so perhaps time to start looking for a new one.
