Warning overpriced V16 flashing lights for Spain
Having just received my August September club magazine I was horrified to see an advert for a compliant V16 flashing light for Spain in 2026 priced at £149.99 by Roadflash. Even with a 10% discount way over priced. I brought mine in Feuvert / Spain for 43 euros recently! The only advantage of the Roadflash is that it also has a suction base. As they are activated by their magnet when put on the vehicle body some people will have a problem. I have one for my car and I intend using the old type flashing light (£10) which I also have on the caravan, but fit a metal plate.
Having brought one which had 12 years SIM use (law requires minimum of 10 years) I then tried registering my vehicle into the DGT system (Spanish traffic) Unfortunately unless you have a Spanish registered vehicle you cannot do this. For them it can give details to breakdown centre and send a vehicle out. It will however when activated send them a signal to say a vehicle has broken down and Spanish users who have registered will get a warning on their app about you.
Great system and far safer. Statistics show many people have been killed using the double triangle system.
Wait until entering Spain and go to the Feuvert shop or any other retailer that sells them. 😊

Google AI came up with this:
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Spanish vehicles: From January 1, 2026, all vehicles registered in Spain will be required to carry a connected V-16 emergency beacon to signal a breakdown or accident.
- Foreign vehicles: Vehicles registered in other countries, including those from France and the UK, are exempt from this requirement when driving in Spain.
- Compliance for foreign vehicles: Foreign vehicles can continue to use warning triangles or other devices permitted in their country of origin, according to Ibex Insurance.
- Rationale: The Spanish DGT has confirmed that the V-16 light is not mandatory for vehicles registered outside of Spain, according to the DGT
I think the DGT is the Spanish equivalent of the DVLA.
I have discovered that because here in the UK we do not need to carry any warning items, we must carry them when visiting countries that require them. Triangles are still the more widely accepted warning devices across the Channel and it seems after 1st Jan 2026 they can still be used by foreign vehicles visiting Spain..

Having to put out warning triangles on a Spanish motorway over 20 years ago I would not recommend as the hard shoulder can be very narrow. This seems a lot safer
