On arrival take train up to Kandy. See temple + elephant, spice garden, tea plantations, and so on. Buy her a sapphire bracelet. Go back down to coast to beaches and sit in the shade under palm trees. Watch cricket match by the fort at Galle. Weather in January lovely. Spotless local home stays and guest houses from around £20 a night. English spoken everywhere. Interest level way above that on tedious long stay campsite in Spain.
