Place to stop Carn to Bayeux

Hi we are taking the overnight ferry fr Portsmouth to Caen in June and have booked on the campsite in Bayeux. As it is a relatively short journey and we cannot get on the site until 2pm we need somewhere to kill the time in between. Any suggestions? ( we have a 7.8m caravan)

The campsite reception will close from 1200 till 1400 but if you tell them you are arriving in the morning they may let you have a pitch before their lunch break. Many sites in France will do that. E Mail and ask.

The alternatives are either a long wait in a French supermarket car park after your 0645 arrival in France, or staying overnight in Uk and then taking the morning ferry from Portsmouth instead of sailing overnight.

Did that crossing last September and stayed on Bayeux site. Think I email to check in early but was refused. It’s a busy site so not many spare spaces. We were in motorhome so parked up at Eleclerc Bayeux and had breakfast and shopped when they opened at 9am. Then moved to small aire in town to kill time. Not sure if you’d fit on there. Outside campsite there is a lay-by which maybe empty early morning.

We have arrived a couple of times half a hour or so before 12:00, although have never booked, and have been let in. There is a reasonable amount of space to wait outside in a dead end road with turning, even for a car and caravan. Have a look on Google satellite photos.

Hi, why not visit the Gold Beach (D-Day) memorial between Port-en-Bessin and La Riviere. It has a huge car park and access for coaches so a car and 7.8m caravan shouldn't be an issue.

Bayeux is beautiful. We stayed there last summer on our way back from Provence.
