We are going to Toulouse in August (as part of a much bigger tour) but then onto Barcelona - we're towing a twin axle van so wondered if anyone has any advice for france to spain ? - which roads, any thoughts etc ?? any advice appreciated !! I've got the libertag for France tolls as we go every year, but is it worth getting the spanish equivalent for just one trip ? Patrick

The vast majority of Spains autoroutes are toll free, therefore in my view a Spanish tag is a waste of time. The easiest route from Toulouse to Barcelona is via the A61 to Narbonne and then the A9 to the Spanish border and then the fee AP7 to Barcelona.. A good stop off a days drive from Toulouse is Camping Salata in Roses, Spain. if you are not in a hurry Carcassone is worth a visit staying at Camping de la Cite.

It's a busy time of the year until mid August, best to book sites in advance

We were always super confident and blase about touring without booking in mid summer. but one place where we got caught out was on the France /Spain border around Le Boulou - just off the A9. We went to sites and we phoned others but they were all full and turning people away. It was hugely busy - so please book ahead for that area as PeeDee has said.

Don't forget, not all French campsites will take twin axle caravans - something to do with avoiding visits by "les Gens du Voyages".

we've already got all our sites booked and they all take twin axles - got special pitches booked where possible so that hopefully should be fine!

I will look at that route peedee and thks for recomendation about tag - I was thinking it not worth it as we won;t be going back to spain for at least 2 - 3 years, as next years trip is already in planning !!

Just to confirm route mentioned by Peedee. We've used that route many a time and it is the best way.
