I usually strip the paint off any new towbar but am not sure how to deal with this E coating. Can I leave it on?

    Towbar or towball?

Good question! Its a detachable towbar which has an E coating.

Sorry but I still can’t work out if you mean the actual towball. I see no point in removing a coating from the towbar but the towball is a different matter.

@Lulu2006 why not take photograph and post it on here, or give some more details for us to help?

The towbar isn't detachable, only the arm that has a towball at the top that fits into the towbar, is this what you mean?

@Lulu2006 Do you mean this, and The E on the label?

I think you will find the E4 is a Dutch EU Type Approval number.

Thanks for your responses guys. I'm talking about the towball which I would usually sandpaper off the paint but haven't come across the E coating before. How have you dealt with yours? I'm inclined to leave it as it is

At last! As I suspected, it is indeed the towball you’re talking about rather than the towbar. It’s been quite a journey. I would remove the coating on the ball rather than risk contaminating the friction pads. I suspect the E in the coating name refers to the method of its application.

I would tend to agree, but why not ring the fitter.
