Large Motorhome Motorway Tag

Has anyone any experience of a motorway tag for both France and Switzerland for a large motorhome we are 4 tonne and although I can see that we probably need a Lumesia 1, I can’t work out how to apply and if this is indeed the cheapest and easiest way to buy for both countries? Help appreciated.

There are no motorway tags for Switzerland. For a vehicle like yours over3500 kg you will pay what the Swiss government calls a heavy vehicle tax - or PSVA - charged at so much per day for every day you spend in that country. Apply on line at via.admin.ch or pay at the border.

For France there are special tags for vehicles over 3500 kg. Several companies such as Toll Tickets supply them. Google search TIS-PL tags which is what they are called

I feel tags are unnecessary unless you are using toll roads very frequently. I avoid them as much as is sensible in France where the cost of a class 3 vehicle is high. When I do use them I pay by credit card, it is no real inconvenience even though I have to get out of the vehicle to do it.The toll machines operate concontactlessly, no pin number necessary.

P.s. Class 3 is roughly 50 cents per mile

The question many motorhomers ask is this….If my vehicle is under 3 metres high, and if it only has 2 axles, will the automated toll booths on France motorways charge class 3 or 4 prices simply because of the vehicle weight being over 3500kg? Can they measure weight? Many say they get by with a normal tag.

They do indeed eurotraveller but increasingly WIMS are being installed and don't forget these days you have to display Angles Mort stickers if you are over 3.5 tons. A bit of a give away.
