But not a general £70 as you seemed to be implying earlier. Anyway, it’s optional to use club sites and pay the required fees just as it’s optional to be a CAMC member. There’s no compulsion.👍🏻

    Peedee

I am a bit confused. I have just checked the York Touring park and weekend in June is a very similar price to the CMC site? Its not quite an exact comparison because Rowntree Park I think doesn't have serviced pitches. If you have a dog there is also an extra charge. Seems also to be no where near as convenient for the City Centre? In fairness I haven't explored the prices for Rowntree Park beyond June so perhaps there is a bigger difference

@peedee It's not really £20 per night thought is it? It is £20 per night less for four nights only*, the rest of the time at YRP it is about £60. The site you link to comes in around £49 through Augustout.

Also in September that site is within a few pounds exactly the same price as YRP, actually for eight nights it's cheaper.

I think using only the August prices to make comparisons is just skewing the figures.

I would certainly pay to be in the centre of city I was visiting somewhere, I ensure this all the time as it makes life easier for going back to the room for 'comfort breaks', taking anything you've bought rather can carrying it around, get or leave extra clothing if the weather changes, having rest before the evening….

Walking two miles just isn't on for us for a city break. You and I may be happy to take the bus but what about if someone in your party can't?

Also why not use York BC if you want to be outside the city, there's a park and ride nearby and (to use you own way of describing prices) is £6 per night less! Actually York BC is always cheaper than your linked site.

Also Peedee I think the booking T&Cs need mentioning. As you know the Club's is £5 deposit (lost if cancelled within 21 days) and pay on arrival. Your site I must say has eye-watering T&Cs:

Deposit Amount Up to 7 Nights £60

    More than 7 Nights £120

The balance of payment is due 30 days prior to check-in date.

Cancellation or booking amendments received 30 days or more prior to your planned arrival may be accepted subject to forfeiture of your booking deposit so you're going to lose all of that deposit?

Cancellations or booking amendments requested within 30 days of your planned arrival date may result in you having to pay the full price of your stay.

Events such as vehicle break-down, illness or inclement weather which result in delayed arrival, or failure to arrive, are not the park’s responsibility and will result in the full price of your booked stay becoming due. We recommend you consider appropriate insurances to cover these possibilities

But as I've always said go where one thinks the best value is for you, what I've never said or done is write that to go anywhere else is madness.

I put a star above * , yesterday there was only one night at £69.90 but today there are three more around the BH, I can only assume that dynamic pricing as at work here and reinforces my view on DP and that when people booked it wud have been around £50 to £60. which it is for May 2026.

@peedee no sorry, have you read my post upthread about five sites? The average is between £40 to £45 out of BH. Only a very few sites like YRP or sites like Seacroft are near that.

In fact if you look at York RP for May 2026 the price is about £55 per night.

@DavidKlyne Also in September onwards David, where towards the end it's actually cheaper.

Rowntree Park next weekend £54.70. Travel lodge York Central £57.99. Yes Central.

So if I still lived in Yorkshire I would go on a train to avoid parking charges and stay in the hotel.

So add on train fares which unless you book early are going to be perhaps the same or more as parking charges?

But I think you've got tonight's price there and taken that for next weekend? @eurortraveller

The price for this coming Saturday is either £154 and £170 depending upon T&C

Certainly far cheaper to stay at the club site.

Each to their own of course but even at your incorrect price for me my caravan still wins, hopefully it will be sunny, I can sit out in the evening in a comfortable chair with certainly cheaper drinks rather than in my room or the tables outside the Travel lodge if they have any. By train I'll have to carry my clothing somehow and possible unpack where as they'll in the caravan straight away.

Travelodge vs my own caravan? Do me a favour!

The last time I stayed in a Travelodge there was a bloke injecting heroin in the car park.

    I'd rather pay double

It’s actually possible to stay in The Hilton in York, overlooking Clifford’s Tower, room and full breakfast for £86. Don’t think the Ouse floods this area🤭Price is higher than Club Site, but you do get your own ensuite bathroom, a very nice breakfast, don’t have to haul a tin box around, wait for the loos to re open, listen to the clattering by the bins, and it’s half a mile closer to central York than YRP. In terms of value for money, that’s a winner for me. Senior railcard makes it a cheap commute for us, and no hold ups on the A64. 👍 No car park charges either, which are very expensive in York.

I think people have a caravan or motorhome to avoid the need to stay in hotels? Hotels do have a purpose when perhaps staying in the van is not as convenient, perhaps just for an overnight stay. The reality is most people will stay on a campsite to 2 or 3 days at a time as a minimum. Staying in a humble Travel Lodge or similar starts to add after a while.

I totally agree David. We would use our MH in preference to hotel because we prefer it. Playing about with the cost of hotels is a little pointless, as they vary much more significantly than CAMC site prices. Look on another day at the Hilton and the cost would be over £200, plus of course the cost of a restaurant for dinner. Whilst we do like to eat out occasionally, all too often it can be disappointing, with overpriced wines and we can do much better ourselves for considerably less.
