We’ve certainly done it recently on route to the ferry. Asked to stay at Morn Hill until 3 pm on day of departure and there was no problem. Even 11 or 12 years ago I remember being asked by the warden at a site where we spent many weekends what time we were planning to leave. He had a request from a number of members to stop on. As long as he could get 8 that didn’t want to he could approve them. As we were planning to leave well before 12 we were happy to be one of the eight.

Can anyone who has read the Facbook/wherever post that started this off tell how many days the reserved pitch can be held empty.

@Navigateur The Facebook post was non specific but I took it to be the day of arrival rather than in advance, as that could cause no end of problems? It is also at the discretion of the site staff so if the site is very busy it might not be possible even on arrival day? It looks like a nice to have rather than a given, the Club will try and accommodate such requests but no guarantee.

I think I read on a twitter response from the club that all had to arrive on same day

It’s on Page 1. Arrive on the same day and pitch can only be reserved from 12:00.

That’s very reasonable actually. I know we wouldn’t want to pitch in between two groups of friends, so if asked we would find another pitch somewhere. Swings and roundabouts.

The (12 on the day of arrival) isn't in reality at all useful unless the office is open then. Not much ust at all in a single set warden site, but even here with multiple sets the office is closed from 12 till 1.

I suppose, since new arrivals are not admitted before 1pm, the reserving friend would be able to make the request when they arrived. Friend may not be able to arrive till later. Warden could then give them something official to place on the pitch.

If reserving friend is already on site, they could make a request earlier, but would have to wait till 12 on the arrival day to place the marker on the appropriate pitch.

It works in the same way if you request a pitch close to facilities, or play area, or service point. The warden will go out and see what is empty on the day, or can look at the bookings to see who is due to leave that day. They then select and reserve what they think is the best pitch.

In this case, you are not obliged to use that pitch if there is a different one you prefer.
