I’d think it will make some very happy being able to reserve pitches for their friends. It’s what many have wanted for years.

up to three units together. Must arrive same day. People notified via a notice on a loo door! Why not an email to members? What is it about the Club and its comms? Do they never learn? Not every site, wardens discretion. Temporary apparently. I foresee a lot of noise issues with three units, kids and dogs.

I used to do it anyway, just stick a "motorhome using this pitch" sign on it. By the way the one I saw was on the chat group, not the Club's official site. It's very well done if it is a spoof.

I'll look out for the sign tomorrow and ask the wardens and report back.

One rule for those with friends, another for those without!

Definately a case of pitch discrimination.

@peedee I also saw it on one of the "faux" Facebook Groups which give the impression, to the casual observer, that it is a semi official group. ( to this day I am amazed the Club allow one of these groups to use a rip off of the official Club logo at the top of their pages?) If it is a change of Club rules I suppose its better that groups are kept together rather than being near but apart which could cause issues for other campers?

Six of one half a dozen of the other.

Friends with pitches apart will still congregate in awnings or units and then you have noise when they leave or hopefully they'll respect the campsite rules. People next to each other don't know when to call it a day or are very considerate of others. It really is pot luck whether the friends understand etiquette and rules and from that point of view matters not whether they are next to each other or apart.

Not bothered either way to be honest. Forty years of pitch choosing experience has taught us the vital signs of what to look out for when trying to get what for us would be a good pitch……..there are certain give aways to give indications of possible noise levels!🤭

Must admit I feel the same. If you want two pitches together then arrive together, but frankly the idea does not worry me.

I'm in the first come first served but if was introduced after the trial I wouldn't be that bothered.

It is at the moment at wardens' discretion so I would think it wouldn't be used on a busy site with lots of arrivals, or once the first few requests have been met.

What is interesting to me is that as club site users have always been protrayed on here as older and retired (and very few younger families) all of a sudden the concept that if a few are allowed to pitch together these would turn into a rowdy rabble! Some sort of critical mass leading to a chain reaction of behaviour they wouldn't normally take part in.

I think a problem for the Club is that they always portray themselves as rules set in concrete. So when they change things, probably for quite sensible reasons, everyone is shocked? I suppose the concern is that groups of people will by default have the best pitches although I doubt there would be much evidence to substantiate that. Site staff would have to be sensible as to what pitches they suggest?

There are plenty of "older and retired" members who have children and Grandchildren to stay and plenty of families on sites during school holidays so I don't follow the logic here @Cornersteady. There's been many a time when chatting to someone on site that they have mentioned that they only have a large unit for the Grandchildren to visit and stay. Plus there are plenty of the older members who are hard of hearing and can create a racket all by themselves.😀 TVs blaring in awnings spring to mind. Plus there are the ones that have always liked to carry on as they have always done in their life and are naturally loud.

As I said previously it's down to the individual members to respect the rules and be aware of their own behaviour.

Saving pitches occurs on CLs and Independent sites at present and, like @Takethedogalong, we tend to have a tendency to pitch away from them but you can be on your own on a CL and have 2 units arrive and pitch next to you.

One will be extremely lucky never to encounter excessive noise at some time or other. All depends on how it is dealt with.

@Wherenext I think you may have missed what I actually wrote (perhaps due to my spelling mistake)

What is interesting to me is that as club site users have always been portrayed on here as older and retired...

    Hope that helps.

We don’t choose a pitch, or avoid a pitch based on occupant age. Vital signs for our peace are TV’s in awnings, yappy dogs, children's abandoned bikes/scooters/other toys, pushchairs, loud groups sat outside, proximity to playground, Staff compound, bin areas, large amounts of beer/wine on view, avoid being near entrances and exits to sites. We have been caught out choosing to pitch up too close to a donkey field, and ostriches having longer necks than we anticipated (knocking on windows upset the Airedales🤣🤣) but we didn’t mind them so much. And we have moved pitches on at least two occasions to avoid loud people.

Goodness me, it never struck me as a problem. We saved a space here in case a friend turned up. Alas they didn’t

@Wherenext +1. We've moved pitch before now, one in particular, to escape 2 couples who were quite elderly, but who obviously didn't give a toss about us being able to hear them watching TV, very loud, in their awning, whilst getting ever more inebriated until midnight. Wardens told us they couldn't do anything about it (??) but it would be best for us to move, as the couples were going to be there for longer than us. No problem for us with a MH and we enjoyed the rest of our stay.

How many times have we heard of folk turning up as early as possible to bag that honeypot/favoured pitch? Over and over again over the years, countless times. Imagine now turning up to see one of those reserved pitches remaining empty for most of the day. It’s no better than queue jumping the likes of which I’m sure we’ve witnessed. It may not concern all but it certainly will quite a few I’m sure. First come first served was as fair as it could possibly be, it’s the British way, or certainly was.

@peedee Well there wasn't one about padding pools being banned?

And in reality that will probably affect me just as much as this new trial.

I managed to report my own post, and did mention I was aware it was a BH, so not expecting a response immediately from my issue.

Regarding site discretion on what can and cannot happen……past experience tells me Members will be too “black and white” to accept anything in between, the (sensible) grey area. I pity the poor staff who have to deal with explaining this to those of a more fixed mindset disposition, never easy. It’s why the Club has so many written rules and regs. It was lovely back when you could ask a Warden if it was ok to stay an hour later if the Site was empty, but that tablet of stone was erected because of the folks who couldn’t accept any compromise, just in case it deprived them of pitch when 50+ others were there for the taking☹️

each time there's a change the members disagree and then after a while it's all forgotten and the new rules normally merge in with the rest of the rules. The only one I can think of that didn't is the waste bins, that's still going strong.

Anyway as to the pitches, we are early birds, knowing the pitches that we prefer on the sites that we frequently stay at, but if all three choices are gone , I wouldn't be happy but it wouldn't spoil the holiday and also how often would that happen ?

The thing that did annoy us was a couple of vans either side of us who were friends /familyand crossed over our pitch to see each other which caused the dogs to bark. They did it with a smile and a sorry , but it didn't help. Mind you this only happened once and that was a good 10 years ago, so like I say how often would that happen ?

@Takethedogalong I don't understand, you can still ask to stay past 12, rule 14b. There may be a charge if after 4pm.

@Cornersteady Thanks for that, I had no idea, but it’s a very long time since we last used a Club Site and wanted to stay a bit longer. Probably around 11-12 years ago, back when we still used caravan. It’s not an issue with MH, as we are off and out earlier now.
