Hi everyone,

We are excited to let you know you can now choose from iconic destinations with our new suggested worldwide itineraries! We have created self-drive routes designed for independent travel in Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand, and Southern Africa. These all include:

  • Return flights.
  • A one-night hotel stay upon arrival.
  • Motorhome rental with insurance for the duration of the trip.
  • Assistance with organising campsites, hotels, transfers and excursions to enhance your trip.

Have you ever visited any of these destinations?

Have you ever visited any of these destinations?

Yes all except New Zealand. While we have visited Canada and the USA we have not toured there. We have had a weeks holiday in Durban and cruised south down the east coast spending a day in East London and Port Elizabeth and two days in Cape Town. A few years later I intended to tour the Garden Route but it never happened. In Australia we have toured for six weeks from Darwin to Sydney but using hotels and motels rather than a motorhome. If we were to tour North America (unlikely) I would either ship my motorhome across the Atlantic (cheaper than long term hire) or again tour using hotels and motels. Flying anywhere these days is not a pleasure anymore (unless business class) so we will not use this mode of travel anymore.

Can’t held with America or Africa but New Zealand was our best yet - and we found it better than Australia- but the 12 days being advertised by the Club to see both NZ islands is ridiculous. We gave ourselves three weeks and never got out of North Island. Great country, great people. And bigger than you think. So extend the dates.

The journey to get there in economy seats is arduous - youngsters do it in one go, but for older travellers I would suggest breaking the journey with a couple of days in either Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Hong Kong - choose your airline accordingly. We find jet lag far worse on the journey home .

We are not motorhomers here at home and felt we would be more comfortable driving a small car and staying in motels. They have kitchenettes for those who want to save the cost of restaurant meals. We didn’t want to be lumbered with a big motorhome and a small one would have been too cramped, and that worked for us. But a daughter who went the following year said phoning Airbnbs a few days ahead worked well for them too. Get modern ,Dad, she said.

Choose your time of year carefully - late November/ early December before their summer hols was good for us as we didn’t need to plan in advance or book accommodation ahead.

Envious, but now too old to go back.

There are options to upgrade the cabin to premium, business and even first.
