Hookpit Farm CL - Near Winchester

Options

What a fab CL site this is, all 5 hard standing pitches arranged in a L shape with a HUGE grassy area for relaxing or sending the kids out to play.

With a fantastic pub walking distance away (King Charles) and a Tesco express and farm shop both also a few minutes drive away.

Plus the site is right on the watercress way disused railway route for doggy or not doggy walks

Winchester is 15 mins drive away.

The facilities are great ~

2 fresh water taps
Chemical and grey water disposal.
Secure access to via a coded gate.

This was our second visit and we had booked out the site with 4 other caravanning families and it was a great vibe just having us on the site!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From us for this CL, we will definitely be back.

Additionally this site is our first experience of the CL network since starting caravanning in 2019, we’ve loved it and will be trying more.

If you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

we are in the south but travel all over so not bothered too much by locations.

this comment precisely exemplifies the downside of not being able to see reviews posted except by going to the individual site. One way of identifying possible sites was by reading reviews. Now you have to choose possible sites first and then look at reviews. There have been occasions in the past where reading a review has encouraged us to take a different route in order to use that CL.

We really do need to be able to see reviews as some sort of separate thread. I thought this was something that was being looked at. It was one of the reasons for visiting CT.

I do hope that the poster of this comment has put this review on the site review section otherwise it will not, I understand , be visible to those viewing the site on the website.

@Hja I agree that the removal of the facility to be able to see a list of latest reviews is a retrograde step. I often have to suggest to people on Facebook Groups that it would be useful to add a review to the main website. I hope the Club are not just paying lip service to site and CL reviews

I also liked to read the reviews on CT and miss that facility. I have a list of 'possible future sites' that has been composed through reading reviews as they are made. Like Hja our trips can easily be modified if something interesting is highlighted.

Thanks @TheCaravanningMummy. Although based in North Wales we may well use this CL if heading to France.

I'm just about to write a report on a recent visit to a smashing CL in North Wales but as others have said it will probably go unnoticed unless someone is looking in that area. I look, not just to the actual review, but also to the reviewer. If they are someone whose reviews I find factual from my own visits I am likely to look on their review more favourably.

I wonder if @Rowena would consider a sort of Sticky, ie an Announcement in the CL section where CT members could leave a short reference, sort of County, Town, Name of CL and a thumbs up or down or a star system (not the whole review) so that we could look them up ourselves on the clubs main site?

I'll have to think of any CLs that I could recommend to you for the south and will post on here when my memory wakes up.

I agree that this site is fabulous and all that the https://clubtogether.caravanclub.co.uk/profile/TheCaravanningMummy says it is. We go there often and it’s a joy! Highly recommend it 🤗

@Wherenext I have already suggested to @Rowena that the IT dept should make a stickie section for reviews but have not heard anything back from her.

I used to make a note of the favourable reviews, and we have visited the odd one on the strength of them. It is definitely a retrograde step not having the ability to view the reviews following their posting.

hello, I’m not familiar with what you are saying about the reviews, I’ve always looked at a potential location/site and if it takes my fancy scrolled to read a few of the reviews on that page. I’ve not known it any other way.

I have however put this review on the club website 👍🏻☺️

would be an excellent stop on the way down for the ferry ports over to France. 👍🏻

thank you so much for any potential sites, I do love a recommendation like you say from a reliable source.

Reviews placed on the web pages of individual sites, club or CL, used to appear on the CT page and there was also a sub heading for reviews. This meant you could see all the reviews posted without having to visit the individual site pages. This, as I and others have said, was really useful because it flagged up CLs and maybe parts of the country you hadn’t thought of. CLs are our normal “go to” for sites, we rarely use club sites, and we are always on the lookout for an interesting or quirky site. Not having that info on CT any more is a really retrograde step, IMO.

@TheCaravanningMummy - Try Rookery Farm, Halesworth, Suffolk

Also The Barton, Bideford, North Devon.

The other three I was going to recommend are all Adult only so wouldn't suit.

I definintely agree with you and others comments about the reviews no longer appearing on CT and wonder why CT stopped showing them as there appears to be no reason at all, not to do so! As sometimes happens with the CMHC, they change something without asking the Members if that is what they want and don't tell us why they decided to change it! I have stayed at a lot of sites due to seeing good reviews on CT, many of which I may not have stayed on at all if I had not seen any reviews about it.

@vbfg The new forum is stand along and, I suspect, not really possible to interact with the main Club website. I think to achieve what we all want they would have to create something on the main website rather than here? Whether it would be possible to resurrect that old part of "Club Together" on the main website I don't know but suspect that is where it would need to happen? Having been closely involved with the "old CT" since its inception I am aware that over the years members wanted more functionality. The new forum has given us that but unfortunately we have also lost a few things along the way.

David, thanks for the explanation but one wonders why the Club did not simply mention WHY the reviews would no longer be able to show up on CT.

I think the reason is that the "club" doesn't really give a fig about CLs in general, as they take trade away from their high prices sites. They are willing to take membership fees from those that use CLs in place of club sites but generally do very little in way of promoting CLs.

I don’t think that’s the case or attitude from the club at all, I’ve seen loads of promotion of the CL network recently just from the awards aspect alone.

I do think however and I did include myself in this that a lot of people don’t quite understand what they are and the range of facilities they offer.
Before looking at it more closely last year due to club sites being closed or full for winter, I discovered they all weren’t just fields with no facilities.

We are planning several trips this year to other CL’s and I’ll defo be sharing them here and on my other platforms. :)

We have just returned from The Centenary Club site having spent two weeks there. In conversation with people on the site we were amazed at the amount of people who did not know CLs. existed.
The majority of people didn’t even know they were in the sites directory,
however, quite a few would never use a CL as they didn’t want to use their onboard loo.

There's no real reason why members shouldn't know about them. The club do include CLs in their "special" that appears in the magazine, where they explore a certain region, usually providing POIs as well as Club sites to stay on but also a couple of CLs. Then there's the Site Directory, the awards and the publicity surrounding voting for them. It's mostly down to sheer ignorance on the members part. I don't do Rallies but I've known about them from day 1 of joining.

Sure, the Club could maybe promote them a bit more but it's unlikely.

I suspect it proves people don't bother to read the info that’s sent to them whether it be hard copies or electronically.

I find it difficult to understand any of the above quote and as for not using CLs when you have the facilities in your van, pretend vanners springs to mind.

Hi everyone, Regarding the reviews on Club Together, I logged this as a request for future improvements when we launched the forum and a few members suggested this would be beneficial as it was previously a really useful way to identify new CL Sites. It's something that we're hoping to implement and a brilliant suggestion. I don't have a date yet but will keep you updated once I know more.

One of the things I miss most from the old version of CT, hope it will be reinstated sooner rather than later. Thanks for the update @Rowena
