Towing with a CVT Automatic

The general consensus seems to be that a 'traditional' automatic with individual gears is better than a CVT automatic that relies on a single steel belt. CVT seems to be much more widespread than I thought and I wondered if any members tow with a CVT auto box eg Nissan X-Trail, and if so, have they experienced a problems.

For over 8 years I towed an 1800kg caravan with a Lexus RX400h that has a CVT transmission without any problems.

The Toyota CVT transmission uses planetary gears , the Mitsubishi Outlander uses a GKN transmission, we have towed with both transmission for nearly 5 years zero problems.
