Frozen pipes

We have just returned from Hawes, we had freezing night time conditions.

The day we were leaving we found out our waste pipes under the van had frozen, luckily they thawed out without causing any damage.

I was thinking of lagging the pipes with foam pipe covers, has anyone else done this or any other ideas.

Thanks in advance.

We were close by in Wharfedale and hit a low of -9C on Wednesday night. Same thing happened to us but it's the first time in 11 winters. We haven't taken any special precautions other than filling our kettle last thing to be on the safe side.

Whenever we get a new caravan I always insulate the waste pipes with foam pipe covers, and if we expect very low temperatures I take off the wastemaster and just drain down into a bucket, which is much easier to empty. I also keep a container of water in the caravan overnight.

Mr Bailey decided to route the kitchen waste through a convoluted path down and up again over the axles to meet the washroom waste. So I diverted the piping to a simple down and out layout using a second Wastemaster. No water left in pipes to freeze since it goes away with a very satisfying "whoosh".

Hawes was also on our list for this week, but Lickpenny CAMC site, neaf Matlock, Derbyshire won out..... mainly because of the weather forcast. Hope all are well at Hawes and Wharfedale.
