Travel Insurance covering Motorcycle use?
Hi All,
We have been using Red Pennant for our EU Travel in the Motorhome. This was for Motorhome Breakdown Cover and our Travel insurance.
However, in 2025 we will for the first time be taking our motorcycle on a trailer behind the Motorhome.
However in the Ts&Cs for Travel Insurance, under general Exclusions it states you are not covered ;
- For travelling on motorcycles, quad bike or any mechanically assisted cycle unless cover has been specifically arranged with the Club and in any event if you fail to wear a crash helmet
So my question is;
What company are other Motorhome users that tow and use a motorcycle whilst in the EU using to get travel insurance for the trip please?

you would think so but after 4 emails each way complete with examples etc the guy I was dealing with still couldn’t grasp how simple that should be. I kept talking about motor policy for the bike and personal cover not covering the bike 🙄
So figured I would ask here. Incidentally, I asked on a Facebook group and the replies made it clear ms y are unaware of the exceptions and ride without any cover.

Try the phone if e mails do not work. Far easier to explain your needs.
It should mean a small additional premium, but I suspect the numbers of people asking for this is very low and many staff might miss the point. I do agree many people do not read the policy and will have missed the point.

I never arrange insurance or any 'contract' over the phone. It's amazing how many times they "lose" the recorded phone calls when you later challenge something they told you. At least with email you have it in writing. I have given CAMC Insurance enough opportunity, Which is why I am simply looking for recommendations for other insurers by those who have the same cover.

I can't see the clause you mention. All I can find is the following which is somewhat different as it says you are covered except in the stated circumstances.
Any claim arising as a result of you driving a motor vehicle or riding a motorcycle unless the appropriate licence is held by the driver of the vehicle. E.g. a full UK driving licence or a valid CBT certificate (DL 196). The licence/ certificate must be relevant to the vehicle in use. You must be following the local safety laws, ride on recognised roads and in respect of motorcycling, the engine capacity is 125cc or lower. Riding/use of quad bikes, ATVs, electronic scooters or E-bikes as a driver or passenger is not covered at any time.

Hi @iDriver
For members who are taking a motorbike or scooter on a trailer at the back of their motorhome, Red Pennant offers Travel Insurance under the Motoring and Personal cover for when members are riding a motorbike or scooter under 125cc. For any motorbikes or scooters over this size, we will need to discuss cover with you as it depends on the size of the bike and the age of the rider. Further terms and conditions apply, which will be explained to you if you meet the underwriting criteria for cover.
If you would like to send a message with your membership number, I can ask a member of the team to ring you to discuss what we can offer. Feel free to email me communitymanager@camc.com.

I can't take the bike cos we have a car and caravan, not a camper / MH, but always arrange separate insurance for the bike, and also separate personal medical type insurance as our annual activity insurance doesn't cover anything if riding a bike over (I think) 125. Pricey, but less than funding the cost of repatriation myself. A friend today told me of a relative repatriated last week from Lisbon to Bristol by private jet with medical attendance after being run over by an unmanned lorry(!!) - £40,000.

When we towed a trailer with out 3 wheeled Peugeot Metropolis scooter onboard we used our breakdown and travel insurance through our Nationwide Flex + account. There was no clause to say we couldn't or that we had to give extra information. While it was on tow it was covered third part once off the trailer its own insurance took over. the holiday cover didn't have any such restrictions.
