Saw the new CT advertised on FB this morning.

There were a few very unfriendly posts, regarding posters on CT from some people.

I wonder if the same people that complain, write posts in the same style as those they complain against? I don't know about anyone else but I have been on forums and email groups since the late nineties and there have always been people you don't agree with, so I don't think it is as exclusive to CT as those posters give the impression it is. I think those of us that use CT tend to put a bit more effort into what we post. The trouble is, I suspect, we now have nearly a generation of people how have grown up with Facebook and they tend to gloss over some of its impracticalities. As the hours tick by we will see the end of this version of CT and I hope people will give the new forum a chance. It will be better than the current version by a country mile.

I don't have a Facebook or any other social media account, but do often post on newpaper articles and there are always some people whom you don't agree with and who don't agree with you, but some people  can take umbrage and others can be  astoundingly vitriolic, or even threatening, simply because you don't share their view/s, often over very trivial matters.

Generally, I do quite like Facebook.  I don't have much time for Twitter (.....sorry...  X, as it's now called).  Rarely do I get around to Instagram or Snapchat.  I do use WhatsApp, especially for the Abbey Choir... excellent for keeping everyone up to date with things.

As regards forums, I reckon it was probably just after DK that I started to take part in forums.  I seem to remember DK on UKCS when I 'arrived'.  I very rarely use that forum these days, although I still use the site finder on UKCS.

It's very easy to get 'hooked'.... before you know it, you are spending hours....

Facebook is the only is the only "Social Media" I use on a daily basis. It can be a very useful source of information, especially, for example, for your make of caravan or motorhome. When I had my Bailey Motorhome the Bailey Motorhome Owners Group was able to provide collective information which was hard to find elsewhere. Here in MK we have quite a few "local" groups which is handy, even if its only to find out which roads have not had their black bins collected! I even belong to a Jigsaw Puzzle group, can you believe you can get a 42,000 piece jigsaw! Its generally only the general discussion groups where you tend to get argumentative people like the faux "CMC" group I mentioned in another post. Much of it is throw away comments with not much basis of truth behind them, often just misguided opinions. I don't know whether you use Pub Stops but there is a very good Facebook Group for those. The way I look at Facebook is that I see it as a tool to provide and share information.

Only those of us who have seen it can sensibly comment. Any unfriendly comments are simply unjustified. Until they try it the rest should keep quiet.

Totally agreed WW - as I said earlier - "just wait and see - you may be pleasantly surprised". I think the Club has taken on board a lot of what has been said in the past about improving CT and whilst I'm certain it won't please everyone - because people will still find fault - it's a vast improvement on what we have at the moment.

It will such a big improvement over the current CT. I imagine that if issues do arise it will be a lot easier to address them. Any new project is always a "best guess" and sometimes through use they can be improved.

Those that moan about it on Facebook will probably moan about anything?

Good point about moaning about anything. We know only too well that some people will complain about CAMC at the slightest opportunity, whether justified or not.

Is there any word on the future of server error issues, David?

Given the server errors seem to be largely CT and not the web site I think that problem may disappear with the new hosting.
I am very much reserving judgement about the new system. I was part of the trial. Some things do seem better. I don’t post photos so can’t comment on that. But to me the new page seemed very fussy with too much on it and a couple of other aspects I didn’t like. I am also waiting to see what they are doing about site reviews. I am certainly hoping they have taken on board some of the comments made during the trial about those.

But as I say, I am reserving judgement. And of course any new forum will take time to get used to.

We have had 8 years of the current system and we’ve had 8 years of continual outages of one kind or another.  I understand why some are sceptical but I don’t think it’s right for some to try and sensor other members

Won’t be too long now before old CT switched off (is that the right techy term🤔😁). Hopefully new set up will attract more posters, should be a few different sections. It has a completely different look, much easier to do things like change avatar, post photos, follow and reply to threads. I will have to relearn how to use it, but I found it quite intuitive, easy to pick things up. It was very fast as well during the test.

Looking forward to new review section as well.

I think there is some confusion here.

The unfriendly comments I saw were not about the new CT that is coming.

It was about about a few CT members who post on a regular basis. The poster said they had stopped posting, due to a few folk jumping onto every thread and making it an unpleasant place to be. I won't mention the CT members that were named but the poster did.

The moans were not about CT itself but about certain members who post on it.

the existing forum will be switched off on Monday 11 November 2024.

So this could be one of the last posts on this version? I wonder when it will go?

Having been one of the testers, if the new version is more or less like the on we tested then I would think people will really like it. There are lots of new features (sorry no spoilers) and I really enjoyed using it.

    Bye old CT.

I said much the same above TG but my post was deleted.
