    Interesting David.  I am off to France on Monday for a week without caravan and will report back if I experience any problems using my Halifax Clarity Card. I like Fougeres; stayed there for a few days a few years ago, not in caravan but a nice hotel as I was with my Choral Society who were giving some concerts in the area.

    Fuel in France is currently far more expensive than in the UK - both petrol and diesel.

    Fill up before your crossing, would be my advice.

    Really?  Supermarkets in Calais are selling diesel at 1.56 euros today - and that’s £1.30 sterling

    Similar further south. Four days ago at a Super U just south of the Loire, diesel £1.31.

    Diesel definitely cheaper in both countries

    Reporting back as promised. No problems with card at a variety of fuel stations in N France.  Diesel about €1.55 - €1.59 so about £1.30.

    I'm a bit confused by "They take £100" statement. We have a new ASDA fuel outlet installation near us. Yes, the pump checks that you can pay £100 but has never charged me more than the cost of the fuel that I've bought. It's the same with many other fuel outlets, including those in France. They aren't taking the money, they are just making sure that you have the funds to pay it. Then, when you have the fuel, the computers take the money. At least, that is what has always happened with me.

    It might be worth just checking your card statement online on the day of the transaction. As I mentioned most people won't even notice it happening. I use a taxi app here in MK, and very useful it is too as I don't have to pay the driver as its debited directly to my credit card. A week ago we went my sons house for a meal and we took a taxi back home using the app. What the App does is estimate the cost of the ride and reserve that amount on your card. When we get home the actual cost plus tip, is debited to the card.  Transactions are usually seen in real time  these days, when checking my credit card online I could see two pending transactions. But the next day only the actual fare was left on my account. I think you will find that the same thing happens to pay at pump transactions. The only time this causes a problem is if you are very near your spending limit on your card.
