Towbar mounted storage box

Hi all.

I am downsizing a bit to a Wildax Pulsar, the downside is reduced storage internally. 

Anyone got any recommendations for a towbar mounted carrier that I can fit a box onto?

It needs to fold back so I can open the rear doors. There are plenty of bike carriers around  that do what I want, but they all seem to have curved holders for rhe wheels. I'm looking for something flat that I can bolt say a Fiamma box onto

    I can't help except to say they are about.  Recently in Spain I saw a number of such units.  Two appeared to have been purpose built even to the extent of being painted with added graphics to match the van.  You may get more info and assistance if you post on the large motorhome forums.

    PS.  I just Googled "tow bar mounted storage boxes".  Thule seem to do some impressive units.

    For its size, the Pulsar has an amazing amount of storage but, even so, has its limitations. You should be able to carry a box without impeding the spare wheel but you will of course lose the advantage of having a van of only 5m.

    Tip - make sure the bed makes up properly before purchase as the metal frame does not always let it lie level and find out how you are meant to change the tail light bulbs if they fail.

    I am struggling to see how you will open the rear doors with a tow ball mounted Fiamma/Thule load carrier🤔, unless you take it off, and to do that, you will have unpack the box, unbolt it from the load carrier, then lift it off the towball. We have both a cycle carrier and a load carrier (Thule, tow bar mounted) and both are fine for carrying loads on the back of our Jeep. But you cannot open the rear tail gate when in place.


    We have seen load carriers that go onto one door at the rear, but they are possibly limited to what the door hinges can cope with. It all depends on what you want to carry in the box I suppose. 

     

    Our Fiamma box fits onto our Fiamma bike carrier with the cycle rails still on, but this is a fixed cycle carrier on the back of our small MH. The load carrier we use doesn’t have the rails, (Thule).

    Even fitting a bike rack to a Pulsar is difficult and is usually factory fitted. I believe there are some towball fitted carriers that swing sideways to allow the rear doors to open🤷🏻‍♂️. The near side rear door has to be opened to access the toilet cassette.

    One further point, unless someone else has already had a towbar fitted, doing so may not be straightforward due to placement of the tanks.

    Would something like this do? Swing Out We have a Fiamma Ultra Box on the back of our motorhome but that is a coachbuilt so no rear doors.

    Not seen that one DK, looks a good idea. Wildax campers are very nice, we were pitched up next to a couple on their first tour in their brand new one a couple of years ago, had a good look around each other’s campers.😁

    We've been looking recently for a lowball box/carrier to fix to our tow car for carrying a wheelchair and have looked at the following website amongst others. Strikes me that with the Pulsars rear wheel limiting height that the boxes shown may fit.
