Possible Targetted Advertising?

Has anyone else noticed the proliferation of non touring advertising that is popping up on the right hand of the forum page screen? Seems to have happened in last few days. I am seeing all sorts, from dodgy Chinese owned budget websites, to rather distressing animal welfare charity photos.🤔

As far as I am aware, I haven’t altered any of my preference settings for this website, so not sure what is happening.

It’s to do with your browser/device rather than CAMC. I can play a card game and get an advert pop up for a local garage despite having my settings set not to track etc🤷🏻‍♂️. Clearing your history might help. I’m sure someone will explain it better than I.

Thanks Tinny. I did look at my settings, changed a few things. Might be related to all the internet issues of last few days. I am back to campervans rather than suffering pigs now thankfully👍

Simply install Adblock Plus and activate it for the sites on which you don't want to see ads.  You can also individually deactivate it for site where you want to see ads - if ever!

    Adblock Plus

There are many such programmes but that one works well for me.

I wonder if the club have allowed them to take over some of that space. I noticed them appearing a couple of days ago so its not just your web problems Ttda. I assume, maybe wrongly, that the club must have allowed them onto their site. They are a nuisance.

If you want I'll report your post to see if anyone there can throw any light on it.

In the meantime I think I might follow LLM's advice. Would this block promotional info from the club on their own website?

It does look as if the website has been opened up to Google Ads? Whilst I am happy to see Club related advertising I am not sure, having paid my membership fees, I should be subjected to non related advertising and be expected to install third part software to so I don't see them. I have reported this thread in the hope that Admin can get back to us with an explanation.

It does not block CAMC promotional ads on my system but I can't be 100% sure on others.  You can always disable it if it cause a problem or even delete it.

I doubt that it's anything to do with the CAMC system; much more likely to be a recent change in Google.  Check your google privacy settings and/or use an ad blocker.

On my mobile such adds come at the bottom. I rarely scroll down that far. However,on the latest activity page I got to the bottom and up cane some interesting ladies underwear ads.

Please believe me, it's not from my Google searches....

Under those 3 were campervan ads

Not sure I agree with that. Ads should only appear on websites that are set up to receive them as they create an income stream. I belong to one forum where if you are a paid up member you don't see adverts but you do if you use the free option so clearly a website can decide if it allow adverts. Members shouldn't have to use  Ad Blocker or any other software as the ads shouldn't be there in the first place.

I decided to try that Adblocker recommended by LLM and signed out and in again and lo and behold no Ads but still club promos.

I do tend to agree with David though that there shouldn't be general ads on here except under the Classified section where T&Cs apply.

You are right.  Each website can control which ads it allows and does not but popup ads which can still arrive through your service via Google and the like, and "overlay".  Is that not why they are called "popups"?  If you use an ad blocker you will in most cases see the website allowed ads but not the overlaying popups.  Give it a try.  It should be as Wherenext says:

Not an everyday purchasewink It seems the two places where for a long time there were Volvo adverts, not sure if it was a Club offer, have now been taken over by random Google Ads. I have reported this but as yet nothing has changed.

I am using an android based pad instead of my MacBook at the moment. I haven't downloaded the adblocker yet. However the system itself may be blocking it as whilst there are 2 spaces for adverts to appear above the club promos there are no actual adverts! It's a Samsung pad.

I had forgotten to download the blocker on this machine.

No ads on my screen except those from CAMC.  AdBlock is just doing its job.  David, if you don't want to use an ad blocker check your system privacy setting.

Surely that can't be right, can it?

I am not even remotely an expert but, surely the web site must provide, or at least not prevent, for these ads to appear - in some way.

I do not see these ads if I look at, for example, my bank's web site, or my solicitor's or my friend's accountants' web site, nor, even, my local car tyre outlet. Nor Sainsbury's web site.

None of those have any ads for other products.

DK...They certainly are Random Ads....Not interested in working for BAE security/defence systems but had a very good offer for a mobility scooter which I shall 'bank' for future reference...

Aside, My take on this would be that the club has used the Google partner ad tech. As mentioned elsewhere, the clubs income has to fund some expensive directors salaries so this would certainly help in that.. See Link below
