Campsite near Lyon

Does anyone have a recommendation for a campsite near Lyon? We are travelling down to Riviera next month and have to make a visit to a suburb to east of Lyon. The people we have to visit are not Campers and only recommendations they have made have very poor reviews. We will be in 7.5m caravan and will be staying 2 nights. Any help appreciated.

The only suggestion I can make is for a campsite that we stayed at before it was incorporated into the Indigo Park Group. It's about a 30 minute drive into Lyon but is on the east side (North East) of the city. It's in an area called Les Dombes and set near a bird park, which was interesting in itself.

We've stayed at the site twice but not recently.

Thanks. Will take a look and see if that is easy to get to/from the people we have to visit.

A long time ago we stayed at the main city campsite -Camping de Lyon - to visit the city. I recall a smart reception area staffed by charming, helpful, young, multi tasking, multilingual staff, plus easy  access from the motorway and easy public transport on into the  city - but the camping area and general amenities were well worn and no better than just about OK. I said then it was passable for a couple of nights. Since then it’s been taken over by the Huttopia group who have done good things elsewhere, so they ought to have improved it - but have they?

We stayed at a site very close to Lyon, by the “old” motorway just north of the city. I think it’s now called “Lyon Campsite”.  Very handy for buses and trains into the city centre and cheap day transport tickets available.

Stayed in Camping des Barolles twice last year for the Rugy WC. It has mixed reviews but we found it fine, friendly staff, facilities OK, gravelly pitches. 10min walk to a bus stop for a bus which goes into the centre of Lyon, easy to connect with other buses. (Lyon now has a tap n go system for credit cards on public transport with a maximum daily charge or you can buy tickets)

Thanks for all advise. Sorry about delay in replying, we will be coming down A6/A7 is it difficult to access with Caravan. Both Google maps and Michelin seem to want to take you off earlier than I thought and through a lot of suburbs. Looks like you can get off A7 and onto A450. Any help appreciated.

Yes, off the A7 on to the A450, then the D486 by the Auchan supermarket.  Straightforward, and the way that google takes me!  Do another search and see what comes up.
