France over 3500kg

Hi All

I’ve just arranged for a weight change to 4000kg. Other than Angles Mort stickers ( which I believe are compulsory ) is there anything else I need to take / add as a result of the weight change ?

    If you didn't carry them before make sure you carry your vehicle documents especially your registration certificate and of course your C1 licence card.

    At over 3500kg you are, of course, subject to the same restrictions that apply to trucks, such as speed limits, no overtaking and no entry signs specifically for vehicles over 3500kg.

     I can't find the relevant article...but when i was applying for a new Crit -Air last year (change of vehicle)....I notice a piece regarding the 3500kg limit. I was interested because my train weight is over the 4000kg mark..Twin axle 2200kg (upgrade) plus Disco.  The wording was something like....if the weight sign shows an HGV then it applies only to HGV's, if no HGV is shown then the weight applies to all vehicles.  

    Also heard that the average Gendarme wont give a second look to MH's regarding this...

    It is not very clear but I don't think that is true of all countries Lutz. If there is a truck on the sign I treat it as not applicable to motorhomes e.g. on the Old Brenner Pass. Many speed limits and overtaking restrictions only apply to HGV Trucks.

    Remember it well !!...and the Gothard with...if I remember, some 32 hairpin bends. And that was before power assisted steering !!

    Edit..... Not tugging a caravan but with a VW Camper ( crate of beer in back ) Wild camped in the Alps/lakes. Those were the days .....

    I was thinking of using the Gothard this year rather than the tunnel. I have looked at it on Google Maps street view and it looks quite doable with my 6.5 ton 8 metre van. I always use the old Brenner Pass when crossing Austria via Innsbruck. Never had any problems other than getting to it from Innsbruck. It does not appear to be signed at all? For variation I might use the Reisa Pass when I am that way again.

    Just had a look myself...had forgot how beautiful that route is. You have kindle a desire to re visit. Very envious if you do go. 

    Not been via the Tunnel for a few years...last time I mis judged and joined the queue ( It was not long after the fire...and only allowing access in limited numbers at a time.)

    You’re right. In France, only goods vehicles over 3500kg are subject to no overtaking signs for trucks, so motorhomes over that limit are exempt. However, that concession doesn’t always apply elsewhere.
