Spanish Pyrenees using the N260

We’re planning to visit the Spanish Pyrenees in October 2023 and we’d like advice on using the N260 from Figueres in the south east to Jaca in the north west. We’ll be towing a 7m caravan with a Discovery Sport and have done a lot of European trips. So, taking into account the road width, gradients and hairpins, will the N260 be suitable?     Have you had a look at google maps and used street view to look at road layout/conditions. Some of that route looks very twisty. I canno imagine you will have any problems with gradients but you may find the continual twist and turns slow going and arduous.

    We stayed at Ainsa a few years ago. We just used the boring AP2 / 22 route through Lleida, then the A138 to Ainsa.
    The Spanish mountain roads were excellent, plenty wide enough for towing and with very good surfaces, but, as PD posted, can be slow going.  
    The area is absolutely stunning, and quite different to the French side of the Pyrenees, enjoy. 🙂

    Drove it in 2012 in a 7.5m motorhome a bit underpowered.  It was okay then and I think they may have improved the road surface since.  Frankly, it was a lovely drive which we took slowly with frequent stops just to enjoy the views.  You have an excellent tug so it should be relatively easy.

    We're planning on travelling this route next May. I was wondering how you got on with your tour especially the N260?

    Hi Mac and Debs

    Got back a week ago and followed the N260 from Roses to Boltana. Had to stop at Boltana as just west of there the road went single track for around 10 miles. Local tourist office advised against it since if 2 vehicles meet, one has to reverse to nearest passing place, and there aren’t many! 
    So, we took a 2 hr detour south then across to Pamplona. 
    Funding to make this single track stretch 2 lane hoped for next year, but will probably be well into 2025 before it’s complete. 
    Some great scenery most of the way, gradients steep in places so need a good tower. Hairpins not a problem and not too many. Stretch to Ainsa was being developed and had traffic lights at single track stretches, hopefully complete next spring, but doable anyway. 
    As we wanted to get into the mountains, N260 meant we had little mileage to do to get into the hills once we were pitched. 
    Google earth and you tube will give you a good idea of roads. 
    Glad we did it but we like making our trips a bit of an adventure anyway!
