Brittany Ferries Club Voyage
Hi,
For the first time in a few years we’re heading to France in September and getting to Roscoff is more expensive than I remember
I’ve looked at the current Club Voyage discount scheme and for £120 in the first year and £60 for each subsequent year it doesn’t seem to save much, if anything, for one trip a year. It used to be more generous when I had it before.
I’m not sure if It’s allowed on the forum but if anyone has the friends and family code and are willing to share I’d appreciate it.
I did try getting a discounted price from the C&MC but it was more expensive than booking direct.

I know it may not really help, but last year we moved to Devon, previously 5 years on Merseyside and 35 years in Essex.
In late August this year we are crossing Plymouth-Roscoff [with a friends discount], but I really think this will be a one off. It is cheaper and quicker for us travelling to Loire and Dordogne via Newhaven-Dieppe [phone your booking if over 60 for 20% discount] or what was our usual Dover/fFokestone to Calais crossing.

Hi, Our booking for May/June this year with car and caravan, Plymouth to Roscoff was cheaper than booking direct-even with a F&F discount.
The CV scheme never made sense for us and the benefits now are minuscule outside of low season.
We all have preferences, but it would take something momentous for us to travel via Dover again rather than Harwich when heading East.
As for Newhaven, our travel companions used this route but we would need a overnight stop each way and, added to the additional distance, this makes Plymouth a better choice for us.

Initially the plan was to try the euro tunnel, as we thought that looked easier, but travelling from deepest Cornwall would really add two day’s drive each way, not to mention fuel, site costs and general fatigue after working right up to leaving. Friends did the same drive recently when visiting Switzerland and were shattered, so we had a rethink.
Ferry prices are similar driving east until Newhaven so the extra driving costs don’t outweigh the days lost to travelling.

Is that booking with C&MC? Maybe I should call them as online they are around £60 more expensive.

Hi Andrew, Yes that was booking with CMC online-costs more to book on the phone.
I spend a great deal of time planning our holidays, something that I thoroughly enjoy by the way, but our circumstances are that-ours, and may not match others.
Then some people do not want to travel by ferry, some don’t like the tunnel etc etc so all we can ever say is what we do and, if that chimes with others, that’s great and what the forum is for, in my opinion!
I have a F&F code which I got from “the other CT” and that would be my suggestion if you want to try that route.
I do always try to remember that I cannot assume that a deal I got will be replicated for others, and other factors can, and do, change which can make comparisons difficult.
Last year a Friday morning crossing to Roscoff was more expensive than an overnight Thursday-this year it isn’t.One last point-I am not that tech savvy so a suggestion that helped me, when faced with an increasing quote prices, was to “clear cookies” oh, and ask someone else to get a quote based on my crossing info-dates/time/outfit etc.

Being west of Chiverton Cross means most journeys are long (especially at the moment) but having not been to France since 2018 Plymouth to Roscoff is definitely the most relaxing option, as once you’re in France you’re on holiday.

Hi Andrew, OK, one thing that is advantageous with CMC is a booking where you combine the crossing with sites or site vouchers.
Its counter intuitive-you add more but pay less-however we have saved massive amounts in the past, when Camping Cheques were the flavour of the day, so just did a quote and these are some figures for a BF crossing to Roscoff-1/9 to 24/9-from CMC & BF.
BF £735 CMC £735
BF WITH F&F CODE £661.50 (DISCOUNT OF £73.50)
CMC WITH 4 SITE VOUCHERS £561.24 (DISCOUNT £173.76)
NET CMC PRICE WITH VOUCHER VALUE (£79.80) £481.44
So as you can see BF & CMC are exactly the same headline price but buying the 4 site vouchers makes CMC £100 cheaper than the BF price, even with a F&F code.
But then factor in the vouchers value and CMC are £253.56 cheaper!!

Sorry, we cross posted.
For us the choice of crossing is simple-when is it the Pont Aven!
For many years we went out Tuesday lunchtime back Sunday morning, so we were on her, and that has more recently changed to a Tuesday night out Sunday return.
However, many of the Tuesday night crossings were "cancelled" this year and when I spoke to staff at Plymouth, whist dropping off our Grandson for a trip to Spain, they said that the Tuesday night would only be in high season' this year and they expect more changes to the timetable for 2024.
Pont Aven now sits in Millbay overnight Tuesday which is very unusual.
In previous years, and especially when cost was the very predominant factor, we used Dover most of the time as our destination was Italy, but what a right pain it became, to the extent that we decided we would be prepared to pay a 'premium' to use Plymouth.
As said, I do make a lot of comparisons and often the cost-taking into consideration fuel/tolls/overnights etc-was the same or less to get the pleasure of a Pont Aven crossing.
Hope that you have a great trip, and with Chivvy as it is I guess you will be allowing a couple of extra days for your journey?!

Shop around. I am seeing CAMC quote of £488 overnight from Plymouth to Roscoff one way (crazy price) but £209 overnight from Portsmouth to Le Havre one way on the same date.

Well, thank you, you have all been brilliant and so helpful. I've got a motorhome and a dog and with a F&F discount code from the other CT forum for the return crossing including cabins both ways for £565 which is better than I had from other sites.
The CMC does offer camping cheques but many of the sites close early in September so I've been left with them before. I find ACSI does stay open longer and there are a lot more of them.

It would appear there is no one correct answer to the question of which is the most financially attractive crossing. You choose your day and then work through the long list of options, putting any preconceptions to one side.

David, try as I might I couldn’t get the vouchers and booking on the club site to be cheaper for dates in september and october, no matter the different Brittany Ferries crossings I tried. It says to add 4 vouchers so I’ll give it another try just to see if it works…maybe I’ll add 5

Tried the club booking again, £674 for a deal with 4 vouchers, so still more expensive than booking directly…I don’t think it likes me.
