    I phoned the club this morning we were booked for 3 weeks from 8th June, the wife received a phone call due to a cancellation she could have a surgery on the 15th June, we were unable to give 3 weeks notice, the club were very understanding and issued us a voucher to be used against our next booking.

    You can please some people some of the time .

    But unfortunately you won't ever please everyone .

    It was the same before deposits were even introduced , those in the membership that were constantly disappointed because the availability they wanted was always booked by someone else first  , the mythical block bookers were blamed to be the main culprits.

    Both booking systems old & new were / are equal to all the membership , it's just that some members feel they are more equal than the rest.

    Personally i don't mind paying booking deposits to the club ! , because i don't it's that simple.

    I only use Cl's.

    As I posted in the other thread it's not going to make any real difference up to about four or five nights, but will make a significant difference on a one, two or longer tour. I suppose it's these 'bookers' that the club is after.

    A 10% deposit and the free 21 day cancellation period must be now one the best T&Cs around for club comparable sites?

    I’m not bothered wether is 10% , 20% or 50% , the holiday has got to be paid for , it just means I pay less when I arrive at the site

    Could be, Corners, as I’ve just read elsewhere of a voucher refund issued as the member has suffered a bereavement.

    I think you'll be paying the same...the pitch fees haven't been reduced. But you might not lose as much if you have to cancel and I'm glad to hear vouchers are offered in certain circumstances although I presume the deposit is still lost?

    We still don’t know why this reduction has been introduced. I assume, it is because forward bookings are not as expected. 

    However, I doubt this will be explained. It is not unreasonable for members of a club, who have paid their subscriptions, to ask why this change has been made. It’s not just that the “expected responses” (what ever they may be), are replying. 

    Asking for some information from a club we are members of, is not necessarily a criticism.

    I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that the voucher would be equal to the deposit lost? Perhap OM can come back and give better details?

    The way the club is run is that decisions are made on our behalf without any consultation and explanations being necessary, being a member has no bearing on it, and all 'we' can do is not to buy what's on offer if we don't like it. I don't have any problems with that.

    It may also be commercially sensitive business information in some way that the club doesn't want its competitors to know about or why it has made that decision?

    The reduction makes business sense to someone who thought it up and who ever approved it. Will it affect anyone in a negative sense who makes a booking? I can't think of anything?

    This does seem to be a major about turn of a major policy decision, albeit at the moment for a short period. This coupled with various site discounts suggests the Club has almost been caught with its trousers down? Being generous one could say that these decisions were made before the full impact of the current  economic difficulties became a  reality. My slight concern about lowering the deposit, especially if it became permanent, is that for the likes of weekend bookings members would be willing to sacrifice a low deposit more easily and we would find ourselves back to square one as far as availability is concerned. If it is decided to extend the 10% deposit perhaps it should only apply for bookings of a certain number of days, perhaps more than 4 nights?

    A weekend deposit will come down by £5, can that really be being the tipping point for sacrificing a deposit? Maybe.

    I always considered the 20% deposit and 21 day cancellation terms to be too harsh to impose on a membership after having such a lenient one previously.

    My own personal view would have been to introduce a 10% deposit with a 10 day cancellation, thus "breaking in" the membership and getting them used to a change in behaviour. The change imposed on them has come as a big shock and, having been a carer myself for a while, not particularly fair to those who are unable to plan out their time away like the rest of us.

    I still think there is time for the club to be conciliatory on the cancellation period and adjust it. Won't really matter to me but as a member I still think it isn't quite right and could do with a tweak.

    I have to disagree David your statement of lowering the deposit could put us back to square one as far as availability is concerned suggests the availability now is because deposits were introduced in my opinion the excessive availability now is because members have have given up on the club and gone elsewhere I am on my first club site this year now and it's been 50 to 60% capacity, I never believed lack of availability was due to no shows and the sites I visited had very few vacant pitches, I'm sure the cost of living will be the excuse for the downturn but it's obvious the powers that be are starting to realise something has gone wrong.

    The club has never been the cheapest option but for me personally I was more than happy to pay the extra for the flexible generous terms and conditions before the changes came in to play but now the club has put itself in direct competition with other providers, I have only booked 2 sites this year instead of the usual 5 if there are many more like myself the club is loosing a lot of income as I can see from the many empty pitches.

    A 70% reduction in cancellations since the introduction of deposits which means more availability for members to book. I call that a win for the club and for the members.

    It’s a perfect storm, some of it created by HQ decision making, some of it aspects beyond the Club’s control.

    It's a storm the club could have weatherd comfortably just by changing the cancellation period to 21 days and forgetting deposits.
