Hi, we're looking for advice about purchasing a pre-paid data only SIM card in France for use in our WiFi router this summer. On past experience we will need approx 50-75Gb. Can any one advise us if this is possible please? Thank you

You can easily purchase a French data sim, not sure if you can buy 50 to 75 gb maybe 25gb and buy more often. If using it to stream TV programmes you will need a good VPN.

We are in France just now and using our phone data which is 12gb each to stream plus our UK sim in a Mifi. Neither of these need a VPN to stream.

Could you maybe look at buying a sim in the UK with more data allowance for overseas.

    Hope this helps

Most UK suppliers will limit the amount of data for roaming - eg GiffGaff who we use limit it to 5GB for a bundle, over which it starts to get expensive.....

There are quite a few mobile phone companies that allow up to 12gb of data abroad. I'm with Smarty my plan gives me 30gb in the UK and 12gb abroad. OH is with Lebara he gets 15gb in the UK and abroad. Tesco who is O2 have a plan that gives unlimited whole away. Poppit and Lobster also have unlimited plans for abroad. Best to read T&Cs as some required you to use equal amounts in the UK and abroad.

There are so many plans out there now that you don't have to sign up to a contract for a year, just month on month. Pause or cancel when not needed then restart when you do.

You can also get 28 and 56 day roaming passes from Three Mobile. I am not aware of any data limits for these but a contract is required.

Had a look the other day with reference to the OP query. Reglo Mobile (Leclerc) do a 200 GB data SIM for about 23 Euro.

However, over here the plan will be pay monthly. You can cancel after the first month but you will need to provide a payment method and address to activate the SIM.

France requires all 'home' SIMs to have an associated traceable address, don't know if this has to be French though. This does not apply to UK roaming on a French network of course.

The above replies pointing to purchasing a UK SIM for the purpose are going to be the best solution for a casual visit. Or share the phones connection and forget the MiFi if you can squeeze enough out of it.

Just to rub it in, We are on Orange over here, and I have 200 GB mobile per month over here or over there, no restriction. Full contract of course.

I have two uk vodafone sims...one in the phone (25gb) and one in a mifi unit (100gb).

each has a roaming limit of 25 gb which gives us 50 gb per month while away.

Our Virgin Media sims which are transferring over to O2 allow 25Gb per month each when roaming in the EU.....
