unable to pay for wifi when on club site

We have been trying to pay for club wifi over the past few days and on two different sites.

Every time we try, the message of not being able to verify our CVC is returned, even on different cards.

Having phoned the helpline they have given us a couple of free 24 hour access periods (so the wifi does work!) after suggesting it might be the bank's problem.

I an guessing that the problem may be due to my CVC being saved on Google pay which I am asked to enter after putting in my card details.  However, as I don't yet have wifi the CVC cannot be verified.  So, I have now removed a couple of cards from Google pay, using my free 24 hours, but will have to wait until this runs out to see if I can directly enter a CVC onto the portal without the Google pay link being triggered.

If I am correct then I will post again, but why does the wifi provider not understand that this might be an issue?

And why can't I just pay for longer whilst I am logged on?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with Club Wi-Fi. It’s unreliable and expensive. We have a mifi system in the van, and I know lots of people use phones as hot spots.

+1, Hja. It’s the mobile network for me every time. Site wifi has nearly always been dire in my experience.

Back when I used to use it JK, I had similar. 14.5 mb at Tewkesbury in the early afternoon just after arrival. However, by 6pm it was down to between 1 and 2 mb. Given how cheap data is these days, I’ve given up on it and rarely get less than 5mb on the phone and often 20 or 30mb.

But are you close to the hotspot, able to connect multiple devices at the same time and are you competing with nigh on 100 other users on a busy site for the download? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Waste of money.  Generally hook my Macbook or ipad to my mobile.  Much better.

Can you pay by PayPal?  That would overcome the need for the CVC number.

Only one device per login TW, same as everyone else. We've always had issue with the phone lines here, the work computer today is only running 1.5mps, luckily we don't open until 30th so it should be sorted by then. When we're open and busy we use a mifi with a 3 sim, usually get 40mps or the mobile with vodafone to get similar. I wouldn't even try the wifiyell

Club wifi is a waste of time, effort and money. Why is it so many commercial sites can offer wifi that is better/faster and free? I use my mobile phone or wifi dongle and happily steam when and just about wherever we are.
