Reason given for closure Peedee. Not much of a surprise eh?
Due to a number of posts going off topic and numerous reports about posts that contravened the Community Guidelines we have closed this discussion pending review. Thank you to all our members who have commented in a positive and helpful manner and for member's who have provided us with constructive feedback.
Let's us this one survives.

Nice to see there’s one letter of support already.
It’s not a requirement to be a resident to write a letter of support or objection. Anyone with an interest can contribute, such as CAMC members.

Thanks Peedee, I'm wondering if the so called "serviced" pitches are just basic pitches as the old service points appear to be upgraded. I note the pitches will be block paved like some of the pitches at Tewkesbury. I would imagine that it will take a while for this site to re-open whatever the planning outcome. I tried to put the plan on here but seem to have lost it! edit just re-checked and the pitches have service points.

Interesting to see the facilities block is divided into two with separate entrances, one for club users and one for the sailing club - 8877719.pdf
And details of the all weather (aka gravel) service pitches

Brue - see plan I've attached it looks like gravel? Clean crushed stone chipping it says? And yes each has a tap and drain as well as EHU

You could be right Corners I thought I read "block paving" somewhere but have Deleted User all the info. Apologies the block paving is around the M/H service point.
The facility block remains the same although I've never noticed anyone using the other part, maybe they just sneak across the public road out of sight!?

This is a welcome improvement plan for this lovely campsite. It will
provide Totnes with the facilities campers expect and allow the site
to provide a long term investment in Totnes. Visitors provide an
important and substantial contribution to the the local economy0 -
I'm not an expert in reading plans - I'm just going off what it says.

The bollard and drain appear the same as the latest club site SPs we've used.
Can anyone find any reference to the electrics within it?

I originally thought the electric supply might be in a separate bollard but the screenshot posted by Corners shows EHU is catered for within the same bollard. I’d not expect the plans to show if there’s a meter🙂

Hi everyone, the reason the original discussion was closed was because it got heated and went off topic. We are happy for this one to remain open but please keep on topic and free from disagreements. Part of the OP was amended so the post is about Steamer Quay and not moderation. Many thanks.

I agree TW , but it would be nice to know. A bit more detail from the Club would be welcome along with clarification whether the intention is as it appears to be that all pitches will be serviced? To know might not make a lot of difference as to whether I would use the site or not but it would indicate Club thinking and where they are heading.

Is there a projected opening date for the refurbished site?

Evening
I think DK, after chatting to the SQ manager it's looking to be around mid summer time. Sites like that with a high water table are obviously weather dependant.

Thanks JK, sounds as if September might be a good bet for a trip down that way.

There is plenty of detail already been given for a while PD (it was also in the last thread) and yes all SP (good news)
Steamer Quay Club Campsite (Closed during redevelopment).
Currently undergoing some large-scale refurbishment. The campsite is expected to reopen
during summer 2023*.Key features
Partial toilet block refurbishment.
PitchesConvert grass economy to 46 new non-awning serviced pitches.
Electric Vehicles
New MVWP, new service points and EV charging points.

Given the site was already popular without electrics or serviced pitches, it seems to be rather a waste of money to go to all that expense unless it was a condition of the lease. Conversion to just all hard standings would have been much cheaper and would have still resulted in an open all year site.

CDP points Brue? I was hoping that the term "serviced" had been liberally used and even now I have my doubts that they will all be fully serviced, in spite of what CS has pointed out. While all pitches will have service bollards I hope not all will be equipped with water and grey waste disposal.

I'm sure all will be revealed soon enough.
Hopefully, if they all turn out to be fully serviced and no meters, I think there is no chance of me using it. As it is, when I am in that area, I use Widdicombe Farm in preference to the Club sites.

Surely the key thing is that the site is going to be open all year? Whilst many might be happy to go off grid in the warmer/lighter months of the year there will be those in that cohort that perhaps would prefer to have electrics over the winter because they would be concerned whether their systems would cope? As for serviced pitches I wonder if we are moving to a point where we will see even mainstream sites being all serviced pitches. As I understand it they are looking at the same as Steamer Quay at Northbrook Farm in Worthing, although of course the latter already has electric points. I suppose it's all to do with added value in terms of revenue stream. The Club already have the information on the popularity of serviced pitches, probably down to the split between motorhomes and caravans so they won't be making decisions blind. Some members will feel alienated by this decision but if the Club is investing a lot of money in refurbishment they clearly feel they are making the right decision for the majority of members over the longer term?

The type of pitch with a water tap and drain is shown on Corner's illustration, no plans shown for any basic pitches. I would always recommend a visit to Totnes and the site is in a perfect spot for the river and town. I think I've mentioned previously I'm biased, some of my ancestors came from Bridgetown which is the area around the site (if anyone's doing family history the Bridgetown residents were mostly hatched and dispatched out at Berry Pomeroy...) If it's not too expensive we might consider future visits, the Longmarsh Car Park is an alternative but can be a bit "iffy" but is only a couple of minutes away from the site. Totnes has an excellent bus service for the surrounding area and also train connections, including steam trains. Driving round Torbay or Dartmouth in the main season would not be my idea of fun.

It was just a thought David (DK), I fully realise that going off grid in the winter is more difficult in the winter months and EHU would be a must for anything other than a short stay. If pitches on sites are to become all serviced, they would become even more expensive if the Club maintained its current pricing structure. I don't think that will bode well for the Club. I would certainly be avoiding them if there were other site choices in the area. I would also be questioning the value of my membership much more than I do now.

I don't think that will bode well for the Club
But the real evidence is just the opposite, SP are in more demand proportionally than standard pitches, there are sites in my experience and others, with large numbers of SP being full (80% MH on one over Christmas) while standard pitches are empty, and it's on sites where all the pitches are hard standing so that cannot be a reason. Look at most sites with SP and they always go first. As posted the club is doing this as people want SP.
Yes of course you can avoid them and question your membership, nothing to debate there.
I would say it bodes very well for the club.
