Today yes but what about in the future, did we ever envisage lets say 20 years ago?  that the club would be providing special facilities for motor homes to dump water and fill water tanks, the club will go whereever it needs to go to survive and make a profit, if that means e.g.tearing up two pitches to make 1 very large pitch, because that is what the market dictates it will do it, not sure how it will charge for this, premium rates i giuess , we have seen VW campers grow into Mh's the size of Tesco delivery vans, tesco delivery vans grow into MH;s the size of furniture removal vans, one of the limiting factors within the UK is the roads infastructure, the roads of the North of Scotland down to the lanes of Devon & Cornwall are just not suitable for 8ft wide caravans, MH's the size of furniture lorries etc but people will have a darn good try at trying to make it work .

I agree there's no soft or hard options, but only what makes one's touring 'soft'.

If I had a MH I would be limiting what I could do on my holidays away and making life hard for myself. I'm sure MH-ers will say the same thing.

I've posted before that I don't care what is on the pitch next to me, be it caravan (and what tows it), MH, boat, tent (if allowed)... I've got my holiday and they have theirs.

Oddly, I think it might have been my use of the word "pesky" to which no similar objection had previously been raised!  frown

Agreed, WTG - it's beyond me how quick some are to object to clearly light hearted comments.

Touring van, MH, camper van,  tent, static van, cottage, hotel - it's surely all about enjoying our leisure time in whatever way suits. Really can't understand why some have to try to be "one up" on others!

I put forward factual information re the growth of Mh's in the UK and the facilities now provided by CAMC and others to accomodate MH's, i put forward scenarios that could happen in the UK based on the MH model now underway in Spain and you come up with this response, an opinion you are entitled too, but you are way way off the mark, but i rest my case.

We toured with a camper van, using Club Sites nearly 40 years ago, it’s always been possible, they weren’t restricted to caravans only back in the 1980’s.

Another site last night- occupied pitches 78% motorised caravans. Everyone appears happy. Beautiful cold and bright morning following a lovely sunny day yesterday. Out for a walk now. Pub, cosy fire and pint later.

Just to let you know we are more than happy for people to discuss overseas touring and we have a dedicated forum Overseas Sites & Touring for this purpose so please feel free to post about overseas campsites and why you love touring overseas in that area of Club Together, as it will be really helpful to anyone who is thinking of tours overseas. We are happy for conversations on your favourite campsites, what you like about them and any tips and advice to share to others.

Please do be mindful not to disrupt a discussion in the UK section with lots of posts about overseas campsites as this can be very off putting for others reading the discussion and contributing to the conversation. This is why we do ask members to keep topics on track in our Community Guidelines. If there are lots of off topic posts we may well remove these so best to stick to the right sections of the forum so any informative content doesn't get Deleted User.

I hope this clears up any confusion and thank you for your understanding. smile

This part of the Forum is "Caravan & Motorhome Chat". No geographical limitations. Mention of trailer tents could be construed as an intrusion.

As for ratios, it may be perhaps likened to Red and Grey Squirrels. The Greys are evidently more adaptable. Perhaps motorhomes are also more adaptable. Having said that, apart from Scotland, I would think the UK, because of roads, parking and other such limitations, swings it slightly in favour of caravans.

I don't know why members just cannot disregard posts of no iterest or irrelevent.

    Comment from the Community Manager:

Hi Peedee, This is indeed possible but as with any forum it does mean people end up reading posts that aren't relevant to the topic which can be avoided, hence why we have the advice in the Community Guidelines and lots of different topic forums available for people to comment in. Please feel free to email me directly if you wish to discuss further so we can keep this discussion on topic. Many thanks, Rowena smile

Long before the NC500 became popular (32 years ago) we did that route with a 6 berth large caravan one July. We didn't have any problems with the roads, most were very little traffic.

We have since done it again with a smaller caravan, again no problems with road conditions.

To be honest we find that Devon/Cornwall is the most challenging due to the high hedges but with care still perfectly doable. We last did it with a Bailey 'wide' MH and a car on an A frame.

Some of the roads in France can be a bit of a challenge especially in the small villages.

I do like your reference to the squirrels 😅😅

I agree with you about the Westcountry lanes being less easy to navigate with either a caravan or a coachbuilt MH. Easier in a PVC though. The Scottish B roads let you see ahead.

Also with ref to the point CY makes in his first paragraph, the OP is about CAMC and "what seems to be an aggressive takeover by motorhome owners". Is there any evidence of that on sites near the NC500 where it might be expected? I certainly noticed an increase in the number of MHs on sites in Scotland just before Covid hit us but aggressive, no.

Squirrels - Best not to be liken Motorhomers to Grey Squirrels as these animals are deemed to be "Aggressors" and steps are being taken in some areas of the UK to eradicate them.😱😂

The last time we did the NC500 was in May 2021. It was busy but not overly so. The sites we stayed on seemed to have a good mix of campers. Ranging from motorbikes and small tents, cars and tents, cars and caravans and of course camper vans and MHs.

I remember the site at Clachtoll you would see the Camper vans and MHs arriving later in the day, then gone again by breakfast. All others seemed to be quite happy to linger a few days enjoying the site and it's wonderful surrounding area. Of course unless the MHs had another means of transport they were limited by how far they could walk.

As to aggression, no I didn't see any of that at all. To be honest I think it was the opposite. Folk would walk around the sites chatting to those sat outside, comparing outfits and generally just talking about where they had been, where they were going and could you recommend interesting things to see/do.

It actually took me back many years to when we first started this way of life. I think it was one of the most pleasant trips we've done in a long time.

Could it be that with such a diverse mix of outfits and not regimented in the site layout that it was more relaxed 🤔 or was it that the weather was near perfect and everyone enjoying themselves doing the same trip. Who knows but 'aggressive' definitely not.
