Alannia Costa Balca Winter Holiday
We are booked in to the above Rally in Feb/ March next year. Its our first time driving abroad. We will arrive in Santander. Can anyone recommend the best route from there to Alicante and recommend a campsite to stop over on route.

Route. Via Michelin.com will give you the options - with mileage and estimated timings. But I suppose you have a road atlas and a sat nav too. They will all show you the direct motorway route via Madrid and there is a choice of ring roads there
Overnight. Sites in the Madrid area which are open all year are few but include Arco Iris and Aranjuez, but there will also be motorhome aires if that is what you prefer. It will be very cold in February so take good sleeping bags

An alternative route is via Zaragoza then down to the coast via Teruel. Camping Ciudad De Zaragoza is ok for a night stop or even two if you want to catch the bus to visit the city. If you fancy a further night stop on the coast I use Camping Kiko Park, Oliva. They have a motorhome aire just outside the campsite and you can still use all the site facilities.
It is a bit further than going via Madrid but would be my preferred route,

We will be heading for Alannia Costa Blanca at the end of January, travelling overland through the tunnel and Bordeaux, then onwards via Zaragoza and Teruel. There are a number of service areas on the A23 between Zaragoza and Valencia which are ok for a night halt; just remember that Teruel is reputedly one of the coldest places in Spain!

Nearly 20 years ago I drove that route solo in January and stopping for a "comfort break" by the roadside, I thought I'd freeze before I'd completed the business. Definitely need a "woolly pully"

Just an aside, we visited Kiko Park while staying just down the coast a bit. We have stayed at Kiko pre Covid. They have done an excellent job of revamping the whole site. It looks so much better now. The smaller pitches on the lefthand side are now slightly bigger, all the tall hedges have gone, with smaller neater hedges in place. The whole area is much lighter and brighter. The pitch surfaces have been redone and now have proper edge stones to them. A much welcomed improvement IMO.
The aire looked good PD for a few nights, decent sized pitches and as you say all the site facilities to use.

Kiko has always been well placed and very popular, this update will add to its appeal. Don't forget the new Xeraco Camper Park, lots of good comments. Probably on our list this coming Spring.
