Calor valve seal problem

After 2 weeks in summer in 30c + in France the 13kg propane bottle was empty, only used for heating water and with strong smell of gas when valve opened a test with soapy water revealed leaking around bottle seal. (metal to metal)

Fitted another propane gas tail and similar problem. Both gas tails have been used on gas bottles previously with no leaking.

When empty for full replacement bottle exchange was made, prior to leaving UK, the propane bottle was looking very old and beaten up. In fact I had to clean it as it was so bad so no surprise that brass bottle valve failed to make a good seal.

Solution when back in UK was to purchase new 'hand tightened'  propane tail which has a rubber nipple to make seal rather than usual bullet shaped metal to metal arrangement. (easy to identify with a knurled wheel on end for fitting)

Raised a complaint with Calor UK and after 2 weeks still no response . Frankly I think they just don't care and there is a rumour that Calor will be exiting small bottle market in UK. Perhaps if Flogas take over the Calor network things will improve?
