Our first was at Salisbury. We were told where to pitch, no choice at all, pitches were cramped and the shower block was only marginally better than the one I used in the 1970's when fruit picking in Norfolk. We booked for 3 nights and left after 2

I see on Trust Pilot they get 1.6 stars out of 5 vs CAMC at 4.2. Says it all really.

The shower blocks were obviously fairly new .....

Allocated pitches helps prevent the race around the site looking for the "best" pitch

Perhaps just more CC members use Trust Pilot .... 😉

That surprises me not one iota. I guess if a friend told you out of 2 choices one was particularly better you’d automatically go for the opposite, I had you down as that guy for sure. Me?, I’ve never been let down by Trustpilot reviews-ever👍🏻. Following your logic one thing we do share is neither of us listen to ‘Frank down the pub’.

Liked both C&CC Malvern and Salisbury and the price was some £8 a night less than the CAMC site. Although, it might have Salisbury in the name this clubs site is nowhere near. At least you can wander into the town from the oppositions. Facilities and pitch were fine, although some levelling was required, however you were warned about that.
We have used CAMC Malvern a lot, but visiting at the back end of September with a MH, decided not to risk grass and booked a HS next door. Even when you can book surface type with this club we are likely to return and not just for the cost saving.

C&CC sites can seem a bit quirky but the Salisbury site has easy access to the City and Old Sarum. Far better than the CMC offering out in the middle of nowhere! Sometimes how a site is in terms of layout and facilities is down to the lease and the C&CC seem to have a lot of sites on short leases which I imagine restricts the options for investment.

As for reviews I always start with a campsite review site like UKCampsites. Trustpilot is just a place a lot of people just let off steam, there are far better review sites if you want detail.

I do recall some nuggets on CT as well, animal noises (was it cows?) from the next field.

I have form Rocky. I used to do a lot of recruitment and selection at work, from taking on casual staff, to interviewing for Managers and above. You have no choice but to discuss the answers and merits of candidates, done sensitively of course, and we always gave helpful feedback.

There are two individuals I would love to review at the moment. Along with a few of the select band of people who have the chance to play eeny, meeny, miny, mo on behalf of millions of others……🤣

    But hey ho………😎

Part of my job  by was to sit in on interviews with candidates for several departments positions

Now it seems "human resources* look at an applicants CV and accept what is written as gospel?! before putting them forward as suitable or so it seems with some in the positions they hold!🤔😂

Agree totally about location, but my opinion is based on the site itself, not where it is.

Regarding Trustpilot and letting off steam. 79% of 5500+ people give CAMC 4 or 5* for Great or Excellent. If this was my business, I'd be happy with that.

81% of 220 people give C&CC 1 or 2* for Poor or Bad. If that was my business, I'd be doing something about it.

Seems that CAMC members have a lot of positive steam

An agency once sent me the CV of someone I had worked with in a previous job. He had been sacked after 3 months for falsifying records and playing golf when he should have been with clients.

He claimed he had worked there for 3 years, and also claimed winning a number of projects that he had never been near. I knew who had won them all, and had won two of them myself.

Needless to say, he didn't get an interview, and the agency who put him forward was sacked.

While a CV may be taken at face value initially, JV, checks will be made prior to employment and probably even earlier than that in the selection process.

Often the person at the interview from the works hierarchy concerned won’t be involved in, or even be aware of, the behind the scenes investigating that takes place.

I think back in the day Tinny job interviews were basically paid lip service I was told-family just walked into jobs, who was promoted was by seniority certainly not by suitability. I read that’s why British industry was so woefully inefficient until the late 20th century when these archaic practices were discontinued👍🏻

I think you’re right, Rocky. Thankfully those old ways were on the way out when I entered the workplace and appointments and promotions were then by merit with procedures in place and scrutiny of processes applied. I reckon by the 1980s all the old boy network stuff had gone as the old timers retired.

Are you sure you have the right site 🤔

We've stayed on the CCC site at Malvern a few times and found it lovely, neatly cut grass, open and sunny pitches, 2 modern, warm and very nice facility blocks.

Took a walk next door to the £9 a night dearer CAMC site, it was depressing, tired and scruffy. Definitely not worth it's cost.

Stay there at least once a year as we have family near by.

Never had an issue with the pitches, some are better than others but they are all big enough for a car/caravan and awning. Great views from the site, showers perfectly acceptable and have always been given a choice of pitches within the type we had booked.

Much better placed than CAMC site.

The Salisbury C&CC site is actually in Salisbury😉, not 9 miles away and a three hour walk or an hour on a bike...

    Hmmmm...let me think...Yes!

Each to their own Tammy, but I feel the need to stick up for the CAMC when so many people come onto this forum to slag it off. If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. I did with C&CC and didn't renew my membership.

I have no problem with paying for what I consider to be a premium service. Is it perfect? No. I'd give it 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5, and did so when invited to do so. But don't tell me that the grass is greener elsewhere, because I know from personal experience that it isn't. (IMHO)

I don’t see any need to stick up for the CAMC, they can do that for themselves if they feel the need.
In the case of Malvern both sites are perfectly acceptable and we would stay at either. Currently the C&CC site is preferred as we can book a HS.  If this club was continuing with its USP whilst also allowing surface type booking, I’m sure we would use their site in the future. However, if I am going to have to pay a deposit, I might as well save £8 a night, as we did when we stayed last September.

As to Salisbury location is always going to be a major factor now we have a MH, even if the site is not 4 / 5* However, as I put above Salisbury is perfectly acceptable on all counts. Again, because of ARD it is typically £7/8 a night less than a similar CAMC site, which is a bonus. 6 nights  more than covers our yearly subscription.

I think they do Steve. They did that by asking for reviews, which was a positive and confident thing to do. But my original post was in response to a post that has now been Deleted User, either by CAMC or by the poster themselves, which was vitriolic in its condemnation of the Club.

Sadly, that means all subsequent posts are now out context, but our opinion is that, on balance, we would rather spend our money with CAMC and pay the extra, having had bad experiences elsewhere. I appreciate that others have a different opinion, and am open minded to giving them another try if I can be convinced that things have improved.

I'll have a walk around the Malvern site and report back!

My point is 'location, location, location'...the club has a knack of naming sites after places that aren't in the vicinity...Bath Chew Valley is 13 miles from Bath. Bishop Sutton Chew Valley CAMC (or even Lopcombe Corner CAMC in the case of Salisbury) site doesn't have the same ring to it.

Many use specific sites as they are where they want to be, quite a few that want to be in Salisbury would use a site in....wait for it....Salisbury. Hence the C&CC site being pretty busy most of the time.

What is the 'premium service' you pay for? I'm a member, do I get it, too?

Again, I wasn't reviewing the location. I was reviewing the site which is, in my experience, awful. Perhaps its changed in the 3 years since I went there, but in camparison to the 30 plus CAMC sites I'd also been to by that time it was dreadful, and that includes the likes of Bolton Abbey and Moorhampton which were in desperate need of updating, and probably still do.

I compare the 2 clubs to Premier Inn and Travelodge, with CAMC being the former. I've used both, and know which I prefer

In my experience, and in my opinion, the experience of using CAMC is superior in every way, from booking, to arriving on site and then the time on site itself. I have never felt the need to pack up go home as I did that time in Salisbury, which is why I am not a member of that club. Having said that, its not perfect, and I'm happy to admit that.

But horses for courses. If you don't feel that you get value for money, email the club and tell them. Its your right as a member. I do, and thats my point, and is what I was trying to convey in reply to the now Deleted User post that was insinuating that the club is a money making machine that doesn't care about its members.

If you want to discuss location, thats another topic altogether
